>"I never liked film music very much,” he confessed in a rare interview for a forthcoming biography.

>He added: “Film music, however good it can be – and it usually isn’t, other than maybe an eight-minute stretch here and there … I just think the music isn’t there. That, what we think of as this precious great film music is … we’re remembering it in some kind of nostalgic way …

>“Just the idea that film music has the same place in the concert hall as the best music in the canon is a mistaken notion, I think.”

>He added: “A lot of [film music] is ephemeral. It’s certainly fragmentary and, until somebody reconstructs it, it isn’t anything that we can even consider as a concert piece.”

Why did Williams say this about film music? The Star Wars title theme is harmonically complex and dynamic. It certainly feels "purposeful" when you listen back to it, but I don't think that detracts much from its musical value.

his Star Wars work is a direct rip of Holsts "The Planets" rearranged, as George Lucas specifically wanted.
Williams is a hack and rightfully has no place in the rankings of great 20th Century composers.

Because the entire purpose is to underlign and complement the movie, and most of that doesn’t stand on its own.
You’re thinking of the main theme, but that’s only a small fraction of the entire score.
He is not only right, but has the credentials to back it up

Movie music is boring to listen to and so is video game music outside of a few more engaging tracks that approach being EDM or pop

Any more info on that? Also, where are the quotes from? Video, audio or printed interview? Any link will do.

Explain how it is. You're the one making the extraordinary claim
>>

I listen to real classical music, the SW theme is just a jingle with an orchestra. It doesn't even hold a candle to symphonies by Shostakovich or Arvo Part that I find a little boring
