I think he just read a lot and got depressed because the world is what it is. also based on what others said about his sex life and how he didn't have a gf he must have been a bit autistic. he'd rather just read books and liked the concept of a gf

I remember googling this guy (never heard his band music but heard about his disappearance), and the fact they didn't find the body is likely because he jumped off a bridge where the water below has strong currents so people who kill themselves there... the bodies are seldomly recovered because of the strong currents so they just slosh around in the depths forever...

The two albums after that (Everything Must Go / This Is My Truth...) are decent-okay, then everything after that is dross apart from Journal For Plague Lovers from ~2009 which uses lyrics left over by Richey again. He was unironically the soul of the band and elevated their whole schtick without playing a note on record, there's a reason people still talk about him 30 years later.
