Almost all fusion after 1976 is quintessential jazz wankery. Along with free jazz it killed the genre when modal, hard-bop and cool jazz players wanted to scale everything back, not become self-indulgent spazzes. Post-bop and progressive big band are the genres you want for an even compromise between these two extremes. Not that it matters if you're someone who spent the past 20 years only absorbing rock/pop tonality, you'll have better luck giving King Lear to some retarded 6 year old who only speaks korean.
