Anyone else miss this era of indie music?
>>127969435no it was crap
>>127969435no, you're also genuinely too young to post on here if this era was at all nostalgic to you

>>127969463Seriously, this era was my heart of darkness. Benadryl and schwag everyday, minimum wage, waking up at 3PM.
no it sucked. really nothing else to say here.
>>127969634Mac was soulful; all the other copies were not
i wish i was privy to it when it was a thing now i'm catching up like a fogiet. doesnt even know who that is
>>127969435Mac DeMarco had a thing and he got crazy rich off it. Jonathan Richman and John Lennon and even bands like Polaris make him redundant though.
>>127969634i remeber some people tried making cuco threads on here but i kept calling him el cucko and i never saw a cuco thread againanyways, hated this shit, castrated wall paper rock
>>127969904Apart from Lennon, none of those examples holds any similarity with Mac's music.
>>127969974Yes they do.
>can't tell girls i just got into mac demarco because they'll think i'm 10 years late to the party>still don't know what's hip today eitherfuck my life
>>127970024right now the hip trending bands are geese and Wednesdayhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Phh3oVCtzBg&list=RDPhh3oVCtzBg&start_radio=1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGNRGk5TOLE
>>127970024Art hoes love MacJust learn to play My Kind of Women on an acoustic, and you'll be swimming in it
>>127970063Had a bipolar girl in a high school who was obsessed with me, who looked just like her.Im good mate
>>127969974It's jangle pop you rtard it all sounds the same
>>127970063I appreciate that, any more recommendations?this is what the girls like? it sounds like girl musicthey're both alright though, not unlistenable
>>127970122If she likes you, she'll listen to whatever ur listening to, be a little confident, mate.
>>127970144alright, that's very encouraging, thanks mateall the same, good to find new tunes, cheers
>>127969435Not that period, but the period right before it. Boy Pablo is fine, but he and the likes of Clairo and Gus Dapperton (who's thankfully forgotten now) were kind of the last gasp before everything got drowned out almost completely by radio girl pop. They're kind of a sign of the end of something much better that was still thriving a few years before.
If the old indie sound was like "mac demarco copycat" then what's the new sound now? Alt-country indie?
>>127970150put on som Oasis bruv.
>>127970165>Alt-country indiethat keeps rearing it's ugly head and i think it'll be a hot sound for a bit, but nowhere near as insufferable or as prominent as mac demarco copycats.
>>127970024Nothing is hip. Take it from me, I'm over 30.
Define indie?
>>127970162>Gus DappertonThis is the first time I've thought of him in years. Never even heard his music, just saw the /mu/ spam.
>>127969435Absolutely fucking not. Can't wait for the revisionism around it 5 year down the line
>>127969435is pablo still depressed
>>127969435no
>>127970656He has maybe one song worth hearing if you like the Smiths, but that's it. He's terrible.
>>127969435Rich kids dicking around
>>127969435The Mac Demarco era? No, not at all
>>127970024Why the fuck are you talking about music with women anyway
no. the hypnagogic sounds of the late 2000s that mac gentrified into pitchfork indie is what i miss. i miss before matt mondanile got cancelled.
The half of this thread shitting on you is wrong and frankly old. I do miss it. I don’t care that many of them were industry plants or rich white kids. The anger of the 2020-2022 culture era dismissed many of these acts off the relevancy map because of that fact and it was unfortunate
>>127970165surely there's an original artist, not necessarily sounding like mac demarco, that people are copy-catting, although i'd give more credit, people can be more original than just copying things even today i'm sure.
>>127969435Zero cultural impact.
Remember Rex Orange Country lmao
>>127969435As a millennial fag I can honestly say 2017-2020 were the absolute most dog shit years for music since before 1990 probably. There will never be ‘bedroom pop’ nights like there are currently emo nights.Limp wristed no balls slacker fag shit.So far removed from rock.So far removed from folk.So far removed from grizzly bear/ animal collective late 2000’s indie. This is what you get when everyone wanted to be Mac Demarco at one point. He literally is to blame lmao.
>>127969435I don't even know who this is, but I could tell you're talking about the Mac DeMarco copycat era of indie music because they're copying his Another One video
>>127969634>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIgmyE5Juzwuninspired talentless trash
>>127969435No it was garbage. Mac's 2 and Salad Days were good but all the copycats sucked massive dongs. I mean, look at this shit: >>127969634. Who even remembers any of this?
>>127980915Why are you calling them copycats? I listened to two of them and neither sound like Mac.
>>127970063sounds like some gay music an advertising agency would use in a gay marketing campaign
>>127969435It was shit, but it does make me feel nostalgic.
>>127969634insufferable core
name a more obnoxious subculturethe men are pussy whipped faggots who get offended over everything and the women are arrogant whores, huge pass.
