>stays in the Billboard 200 chart for almost 15 years
>741 consecutive weeks
How did they do it?

Records used to me comparatively expensive to buy. They were like $30 when rent was $40 and you could eat chicken all week for $20, so people had to save a little bit each week to buy records and DSOTM was very popular

>Although it held the number one spot in the US for only a week, it remained in the Billboard 200 albums chart for 736 nonconsecutive weeks (from 17 March 1973 to 16 July 1988).
>Of those first 736 charted weeks, the album had two notable consecutive runs in the Billboard 200 chart: 84 weeks (from 17 March 1973 to 19 October 1974) and 593 weeks (from 18 December 1976 to 23 April 1988).

Records were $3.99 in the mid 70s and $7.99 in the late 80s. Give or take.

Everything PF released up to DSotM were cut outs. Including Pipers.

It's not only about the band being good, it's also a cultural global context where a genre was trending. Like today with rap.

its a good album
its also accesible
>>
Awesome album with marketable singles by a musically talented mainstream band of a genre that was peaking in popularity at the time
>>
>>127974369
what's that album cover meant to represent?
also I just noticed kinda of a trend in that type of album artwork
>>

The picture of the prism dispersing light was selected by the band out of seven images offered by Hipgnosis.
>The design depicts a glass prism dispersing white light into colours and represents three elements: the band's stage lighting, the album lyrics, and Wright's request for a "simple and bold" design.
The light continuing across the gatefold was Roger Waters' idea and they added the pulse line to represent the heartbeat kick drum pattern heard throughout the album.

Storm Thorgeson did say that one of the rejected covers was inspired by the Silver Surfer
