In this thread, discuss an artist you consider godtier despite having a discography full of music you mostly consider dogshit. Be as autistic and rambling as you want, comment, debate, discuss.

For me, it's Iggy Pop. The guy is responsible for a heavy handful of music that I consider personal favorites ranging from imperfect to blindingly genius. However, I think about 85% of his output is inane, uninspired, detritus.

Somehow, he still manages to suprise me now and then and releases something really cool. I thought Post Pop Depression and Free were really strong albums for a geezer and the Teatime Dub Encounters EP he did with Underworld is one of my favorite things to come out in the last decade.

Obviously I love pretty much all of the Stooges and early Bowie collab stuff, and I dig a number of individual songs from the rest of his 70s-80s output. But almost everything between the late 80s and now is completely disposable junk save a semi-interesting song here and there. Even the Stooges reunion stuff sounds like an entirely different band and rank among the worst of his career. Obviously the Stooges are one of the most influential bands in modern music and he is among the (if not THE) greatest frontmen of all time. Sometimes I think he blew his creative wad at the beginning his career (as most artists do) and his wad was just so powerful that it carried him longer than it should have (approx 45 years lol) before he found his creative footing again.

He seemed to slowly start experimenting/taking more risks and went back to making collaborative albums. I think that's where he really shines. He seems too ADHD to fully realize an idea on his own. The albums of french covers were interesting i guess and he's definitely got a great speaking voice, peak for a future in narrating things like the morgan freeman voice meme but good. His most recent album was pretty boring but I wouldn't be suprised if he surprises me once or twice more before he finally croaks.

yung lean closed last show in Detroit playing "I wanna be your dog" for what felt like 15 minutes, it was fucking awesome.
>>
I love Iggy but that fucker ain't no musical genius, he can't even play let alone sing. A creative powerhouse yeah but genius? That's used too liberally nowadays.
>>
Like take these albums for example:
Brick By Brick
Naughty Little Doggy (i actually kinda like this one for some reason)
Blah Blah Blah
American Caesar
Instinct (high on you is a guilty pleasure but it's objectively shit)
Beat Em Up
Skip around through some of these albums and you'll see they are almost intentionally dull and pointless. They just ride on the guy's name or else no record company would pay to put them out. Even an album like Soldier is admirable for being so experimental in the 80s but there isn't really a single song I'd save and listen to again let alone recommend to people.

It's a beast of a track. I hear all this cool shit about yung leen, he seems like a cool guy but I can't appreciate any if his music.

Yeah I didn't mean musical genius, creative genius for sure. Some of the stuff he comes up with lyrically is unmatched imo. I always loved how bowie said "no one writes songs faster than Jimmy (Iggy)". Could explain why 90% of his stuff is junk. He just spurts out the first thing that comes to mind and sends it in lol.

Nine Inch Nails quality has been shaky for over a decade now

Tron was a disgrace (along with the rest of the soudntrack/ghosts shit). But i thought the 3 eps and hesitation marks were great.

leans disc is kinda hit or miss but his cultural impact and artistry is significant

I love Brick by Brick.

Main Street Eyes is real as fuck as is Starry Night. Your absolute coolest uncle at his most unc.

The Rolling Stones haven't released a single good song since 1981. They've sucked longer than most bands have existed, but before that, they were untouchable.
