Has there ever been a rap artist 'ahead of their time', whose music got way more popular 15 or 20 years after it was made, like Velvet Underground or Pixies in rock?

And is that an indicator of a somewhat serious art form - the idea you can be 'ahead of your time'?

there are artists with music as popular 15 or 20 years after it was released, not way more popular
no. there is serious rap and ironic rap and satirical rap and everything in between
>>
oh i suppose you meant the art form. no, there is no such thing as a serious art form and an unserious art form

I feel like MF DOOM and songs like Rap Snitches Knishes became way more popular after their peaks

Were you there when he released MM Food? I wasn't but I don't think it became way more popular. He got a spike in listeners after he died, but hip hop heads knew about him before he died

There are hip hop artists ahead of their time, informally, but not 15 years ahead of their time and it doesn't have much to do with popularity
