Oldfag bong here, can someone please explain why the kids these days are obsessed with 90s British music?

I know acid-house had a moment with Azealia Banks and Negative Gemini but it was always either doing its own take or being played tongue-in-cheek. Now I see shit like Stone-Roses t-shirts on sale in a major clothing retailer.

because that music was good and current music is shit

in my 20s i head a madchester phase and im american. I saw that movie 24 hour party people too.
At the time my generation was into "edm", and i wished it was like back in the 80s-90s instead of skrillho and deadmouse boring garbage music

anyways stone roses had one good album but it was very good, i hope american youth can kick off their own new summer of love and drop acid and listen to acid

current music is exemplified by Tay Tay and frienemies, that is it is really insipid and dull
so they look for other stuff to listen to and have ended up listening to Oasis and Prodigy
honestly can't fault them, although getting them to try Jilted instead of just putting firestarter on repeat is harder than it should be

Pop music has always been like that. You're doing the equivalent of those kids commenting on old youtube videos. You can argue that the 90s nostalgia era was going to come eventually but the way it's come about is weirdly obsessed with dressing like a tramp and truly derivative music.

And for all the talk of 90s being cool I think that scene-girl at the disco would have an aneurysm if she watched Men Behaving Badly.

I have no idea what you're talking about, young people today aren't into British music. British music is generally enjoyed by old-world imperialists and Liverpool scarecrows, the modern American youth is much moreso into the "Denver New Wave" sound pioneered by artists such as Nic "Comics" Sequeira.
