Why did the Shins have a certain sauce that their contemporaries lacked? They mog other indie bands from the early 2000s
>>128007106It was the very light sunshine pop that they abandoned after the first few albums, especially pic related debut
>>128007106>>128007888Dent May has the sound you're looking for. Any album. Try him out he's kind of Mercer-ish

>>128007888Was Australia on one of those early albums? It has a very dark meaning, I’ll link it in a minute
The Shins - Australia (live acoustic)https://youtu.be/CTgTjRBnq8QThe brilliant thing about this song is it’s Australian trad time signatures and modality, most people wouldn’t recognise it. It’s about fifo workers, Australian miners who have to fly in to the mines and work for so many weeks then fly out and have a week or two off, it’s a deeper topic criticism of it having workers living on sight away from family because it’s better financially for the mines than having to build an actual town for the workers and their families to live in. I find it dystopic. They get paid well though but it fucks up all sense of community
>>128007888the first album only has that sixties sound to it because that was the only recording equipment mercer could afford
