what you need is what is called in literature and poetry is called a "conceit". or basically an extended metaphor. I stole this idea from the script writer of the movie taxi driver. Basically his method is to take something that is bothering you and create a metaphor for it. Like, if you were gay, dont write about being gay, write about someone who lives a double life like a spyOr if you are feeling lost, what else is lost, being lost in a forest. write a song about that.

When you get older, you're more discerning, which can produce better art but also makes it more difficult. If you're feeling stuck, just shit out whatever, get the juices flowing again
