How he never get bored of Stratocaster?
>>
Alright. I can't decide. I'm buying one of these this afternoon. Which do you guys prefer or think I should get. My first inclination was the bourbon burst, but then I saw the AAA dark cherry and wanted that. I really love the blueberry burst in person but it's not a tradition 'aul color. Then ebony is always classic for grunge / 2000s rock stuff. Idk. All of them are going to be 500 dollars off so I'm not too concerned about price. I had a tobacco burst ish prs se that I kind of hated the look of but idk bourbon burst seems to be more subtle.

Some people just worship Strats, I don’t get it.
>>
>>128028932
This is basically what my PRS looked like and I always regretted getting this color over the charcoal which I think is the best PRS color. I don't want to make that same mistake with my 'es 'aul.
>>
>>128028942
I don't either. They're probably my least favorite guitar to play and maintain. I'd rather play boomer bends on a tele or les paul. I don't like how jangly and buzzy they are or where the pickups or controls are and they kinda feel cheap to me. Although I love charvels.
>>
>>128028914

Strats are never boring if you can weedlyweedlywee on them all day long.
>>
>>128028950
Tastes change. Im gassing hard for a LP Custom in aged Pelham as I’m currently in a solid color phase
>>
>>128028963
I love the alpine white customs but can't afford one. That would probably be my easy choice if I could. Idk. I think the safest bet is the dark cherry burst because it is that classic paul color and it'll age into more of a lemon burst which I also enjoy. When I buy cars I tend to go for grey, black or silver. I'm not really a burst guy at all but I guess to me a solid color LP kind of makes it look cheap. Like a solid color non flamed PRS doesn't fit that guitars vibe if you know what I mean. Alpine white seems to work for LP customs and studios tho.
>>
>>128028958
I got nothing against the Strat itself, but owning 30 of the same blonde Strat maple neck SSS no mods... somethings not right with that man.
>>
>>128028998
Look at guys like malcolm young. That guy played 2 guitars his entire career and probably didn't own many more. Some people are just like stuck in their ways or something. I can't imagine having hundreds of millions of dollars and not having a whole rack of guitars on stage with you.
>>
>>128028932
Bourbon for mw
>>
>>128029013
I mean bourbon is on the order I originally called in to see what discount they could do for me. It was my gut reaction. I've seen heritage cherry bursts in person that I hated. So maybe that is the right choice.
>>
>>128028993
well yeah, Gibson makes solid guitars to get rid of the shittiest, gayest wood they have. Only a complete mong buys a solid colored Gibson
>>
>>128029030
Does a AAA flame top have more toan or weigh less than a AA figured top? Like does the quality of the maple cap actually matter?
>>
>>128029043
The reason I ask this is because technically the more flamed it is the older the wood is and therefore the more dry and strong it is right
>>
>>128029043
No

>>
>>128029049
I just looked up some stuff and apparently the flame is less stable and softer because it isn't as dense. So does that equal more toan because the wood is breathing and resonating more?
>>128029054
Growing up watching dean deleo play this one really has me considering it. Although, idk. It would save me some money, too.
>>
I mean you have to admit, it has a vibe. Less of a boomer vibe than a burst. Would work better if I joined a hard rock original band. I could even put a black pickguard on it if I wanted.
>>
Get the Jerry Cantrell model
>>
Also this one was one of my favorite guitars kirk played, but obviously it's a custom.
>>
>>128029107
I do not like wine red or any red guitars or gold hardware. I'd buy his G&L rampage tho.
>>
Les Pauls look cool but the are shit to play
>>
Blacked out ebony's do look pretty sick.
>>
>>128029122
They're shit to play sitting down and in the super high frets but for most stuff they're actually pretty comfy. The 12 inch radius helps for chords rhythm playing. I enjoy playing them I just think they're really uncomfy sitting down.

>>
>>128029182
configuring mfx is a pain in the ass though, like that's one of the main reasons people prefer analog
>>
>>128029205
Yeah but once it’s done you can save your profiles and back them up and never have to do it again even if you have to replace the unit. And you never have to touch a knob during a live gig. You can create your entire set list and just bank through songs and use snapshots for the various parts. It’s so much more efficient and leaves you to focus on your playing instead of what button you need to click next.
>>
>>128029205
I just remember playing a gig for a panel of warped tour judges back in 2008 and not having time to switch my delay pedal off from the delay and chorus clean verse to the melodic lead part in the bridge and it pissed me off cause it made it sound like shit. And ever since then I’ve hated pedal boards. The clean part was really intricate and it went straight into a lead part that was also technical and left me barely enough time to switch the amp channel and get my hand up to the 17th fret.
>>
What guitar method should I invest in?
>>
>>128029228
I meant to say the pre chorus and chorus not the bridge. A midi controller would have solved this but we were broke 20 year olds. I’d be fine if I had a pedal board with midi controller, but again it’s a bunch of expensive shit you have to wire and heavy to haul around and fragile.
>>
>>128029228
Oh yeah and it wasn’t just that it was clean channel delay chorus, dirty channel delay chorus off tube screamer on, and vice verse. So it was 4 pedals to switch every time and the pre chorus was an instant switch from playing arpeggiated triads on the 5th fret to boomer bends and legato for the melodic chorus lead. All that shit at once was a nightmare. So I ended up just turning the chorus off switching the channel and hitting the tube screamer. The problem was the delay was like a 16th note with a long trail so it fucked the sound of my lead part and made it muddy. Never again.
>>
And I know I’m blogging here but back then I vowed that if I ever played in another touring band I would A/B switch a jazz chorus and my mess with separate pedalboards. But the new modelers have solved that problem.
>>
>>128029292
Mesa double rec not mess. But I was like yeah if I’m gonna have effects for the clean tones specifically I might as well just keep those always on and a/b two separate amps and pedalboards because as well the clean channel on the Mesa isn’t great. Anyway blog over

Just got a new axe with 2 humbuckers and push/pull coil tap. Currently has no brand high output(metal pick ups).
What can I put in it for maximum versatility without switching to actives?
I want something good for blues/Jazz tones. I have another guitar specifically for metal so I’d be ok with something that’s good for everything but metal.
>>
Why did charvel switch all their guitars to duncan distortions wtf the jb 59 combo was way better.
>>
>>128029100
I was just reading over this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Black
>>
>>128029430
Duncan JB/59. Pretty much the pickups you heard on all the 80s clean stuff dan huff did. They coil split nicely and you can get strat tones.
>>
>>128029452
Kurt Cobain's final guitar (if I can recall correctly) was a Telecaster with a JB bridge and a 70s Gibson print neck humbucker. He said it was his favourite guitar ever.
>>
>>128029462
who gives a fuck what guitar a powerchord guy plays
>>
>>128029470
It was for his country album. Just a neat thought, I guess. Some people just don't like Gibsons, but like Humbuckers. Kurt was that.
>>
>>128029477
You'd be surprised how many classic clean stratty tones are achieved with jb bridge pickups. They're super versatile, and can still do all the hard rock and metal stuff. Like even john oates used a jb in his strat for all the hall and oats stuff.
>>
>>128029485
I would be surprised, too.
Cool, I like Hall & Oates.
>>
>>128029499
Well apparently it was a really early Seymour Duncan pickup so not necessarily a JB but I’m pretty sure they’re similar because the JB is a paf style pickup. Could have been closer to a 59. The JB was modeled after Jeff becks Duncan paf. Hence JB. But they’re all similar in some ways
>>
>>128029452
>>128029462
Thanks guys, sounds like the JB/59 is a great option.
Ignore the wankers, I found your answers helpful.
>>
>>128029614
If you don’t want it hot enough to play hard rock you could go 59/59 as well or the pearly gates which are the pickups modeled after Billy gibbons Les Paul.
>>
>>128029600
I remember reading about Jeff Beck turning down the signature "Jeff Beck" pickup. There's something uniquely 'Duncan' about the JB that surpasses the use of a Gibson PAF. I wonder if you'd find more JB pickups in Strats than Les Pauls.

I was going to put these in my Les Paul Studio Tribute but I threw it down the hall (snapping the headstock off) and then tossed it over my fence. Someone repaired the neck and stuck it on kijiji for $800 CAD. Lol.

The slime is running the clock again today, so today's project is doing tracking a guitar duet of Bartok's based "44 Duets for Violin":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmtVeVD-IgA&list=PLPoMtSx6DdQvJfWWxeJhXG-gVHAKOqCq-&index=35

https://imslp.org/wiki/44_Duos_for_2_Violins%2C_Sz.98_(Bart%C3%B3k%2C_B%C3%A9la)

There might be a way to do this with an open tuning on one guitar.
>thoughts
>>
>>128029984
how the fuck else are you supposed to palm mute without resting your hand on the strings? seriously the thing went out tune as soon as you apply any pressure it was annoying as fuck
>>
>>128029969
Also when it’s dive only it doesn’t affect bends. And the evh ones have a d tuna to slip into drop d whenever you want. It’s a good system.
>>
>just don't palm mute it's bad technique
>>
>>128029996
You’re palm muting too close to the bridge I palm mute on Floyd’s all the time even floating ones and never have a problem.
>>
>>128030009

>never have a problem

>>
>>128030009
if string tension alone will cause a floyd rose angle to change (it does) then it is physically impossible to touch the strings in any capacity that would not cause the other strings to go out of tune

So I got these Floyd Rose blocks for setups but am afraid to use them. They want you to adjust the trem screws for every string change?
>>
>>128030370
Do it yourself on a shitty guitar. You need to learn the subtleties of string winding, when strings go bad/slack, and any ongoing issues (like a bridge saddle or a nut that needs graphite). If you pay them, they will not address these unless you ask for them or you'll be upcharged for something as simple as rubbing a pencil in the joint (makes a HUGE difference if you change tunings without coated strings).
>>
>>128030722
no but blocking the trem prevents you from having to retune each string 10 times. the point of the blocks being soft wood is that it should be almost impossible to damage your guitar with them on accident
>>

>>
>>128030928

>>
Bumping from the end of last thread: I need a delay pedal. I’ve been waiting/holding out for the Behringer BM-14 Moog clone that’s coming out soon, but I’m tempted by the JHS flight delay and the BeeBeeDee. I kinda want analog though and the BM-14 is analog and half the price of the other two. I got their phaser, the 12 stage BM-13 based on the old, very rare Moog, and it is the best phaser I’ve ever tried. Any suggestions outside of the three I mentioned? It doesn’t have to be analog though that is a plus.

>>
>>128030021

You’re not supposed to touch the bridge when you palm mute and you also shouldn’t be applying enough pressure to affect the string tension. A feather light touch is all you need. Skill issue.

I found an squier SP10 amp in my house. Must have been one that came bundled the old squier strat I found when I was a kid. 2003. The clean channel sounds surprisingly decent, but the OD channel is bad. Laughably bad. So bad I actually kind of like it.

I really need to get a decent amp. I really don't care for the ibanez GTR15R I have. I'm using it because I have it sitting around from an old Ibanez Gio. It's too dark sounding to me even after dialing it in.

Gay son’s song? Eh, it’s okay. Sounds like pedal steel. I like the Preston Reed style stuff she did early on - and the fact that she was a busker. I did see her TED talk which was just an album promo for I dunno LEDs on her guitar, but her early stuff like “playing with pink noise” with the mic’s up behind the fretting hand notes is quite good and raw. When I’m balls deep in her, that will be out soundtrack.

I’m thinking of tuning the guitar down and playing the strings in fifths with a Capo to do it like a mandolin.

Let’s see I might try Bb F C G for the bottom four strings and capo it at the 9th fret. Either that, of just do it in standard, but the open strings sound better…
