Why is this country so bad at making music? The only good Russian music I’ve listened to is early 20th century classical music like Shostakovich that the USSR sponsored. All of their modern music is utter trash: hardbass, shitty hip hop that rips off Western rappers, generic Euro pop stuff, Gen z “drift phonk”, etcAlso the “they don’t have freedom of expression” argument is invalid because there have been lots of amazing Russian movies during the dictatorship parts of their history, so why no good music
