It transcends all regions, time periods, and subgenres of hip-hop featuring many of it's greatest artists and hitmakers to spin a tapestry of a man losing his fragile grip on sanity.I think it's really fascinating that you can hear Kanye battling his descent into madness on this record. It's the last time it seems like he had any lucidity or self-awareness/control, and his bipolarity is fully on display with there being tracts of the album that veer wildly into different tones or interpretations of the same subject. And then you have St. Pablo and No More Parties in LA which seem like Kanye realizing he's lost his mind again and trying to get a grip on his situation, with him being all wistful and cautiously optimistic on SP. There's very much a Kanye before and after this record that you also saw with 808s, albeit this time to a far more extreme degree as his mental health and addictions flew off a cliff and Kim left him.
