What do you guys think are the most influential albums in the history of rock?
The ones that on the long run inspired more music.
>>
>>128079787
Haha im listening to the crickets right now. Weird o_0
>>
>>128079802
they're pretty good though
>>
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
Robert Johnson - King of the Delta Blues
Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
Some kind of punkslop too, maybe The Ramones' first album? Idk much about the genre though
>>
>>128079891
yea I guess back sabbath is a no brainer. I forgot it cause I dont like metal. thanks for the recs
>>
>>128079891
Never mind the bollocks. I’d add the stooges first 3 albums and Bowie’s 70s albums
>>
>>128079891
>Pet Sounds
Genuinely, what did that influence long term. The only things I can think of is some 70s pop schlock (Carpenters, Chicago, Air Supply). Plus, the album is just Brian trying to emulate Spector, so the credit should to him anyways.
>>
>>128079891
black sabbath is still a transitional work imo, paranoid and master of reality are the ones that really influenced a whole generation of musicians.
howlin wolf, elmore james and muddy waters were possibly even more influential than robert johnson imo.
the ramones forst album is definitely near the top of the list.
i would also add hwy 61 by bob dylan.

also you all forgot about chuck berry who was the most influential of them all
>>
>>128079952
Pretty much all of dream pop
>>
>>128079952
it supposedly inspired sgt. pepper's which set off psychedelia.

there were already a few hundred (at least) psych rock albums released before sgt. pepper

AAAAAAA DO YOU LOOOOVE ME
>>
>>128079968
Idk much about that genre, so I’ll give you that.
>>128079980
So one album? An album that you admit was the one that actually inspired people?
>>
>>128080077
This is the first dream pop song. It could come out today and still sound contemporary nearly 60 years later

>>
>>128079980
>which set off psychedelia
You need to read Scaruffi's essay on The Beatles. He goes to great lengths to dispel this myth. Psychedelic rock was already a well-established genre before Sgt Pepper came out.

The Beatles never musically invented or innovated anything. They just took other people's inventions and made them palatable for a mainstream pop audience.
>>
>>128080137
>The Beatles never musically invented or innovated anything.
I partially disagree. Their work was derivative with some original contributions, just like 99% of musicians. For example, Paul made the first song with feedback back in 64

>>128080130

Wrong

Fair enough, I didn't actually know that. They are still far inferior to the Stones tho
>>
>>128080214
More psychedelic than dream
>>
>>128080186
There were a few 40s and 50s blues artists who used feedback prior to that though. Even the Rolling Stones did it a year or so prior

You are right, thanks for correcting me, I have been lied again by beatles fans. Im also not familiar with the 50s blues scene
>>
>>128080137
I agree for the most part, but they generally still came up with the ideas independently. Just because some did something before doesn’t mean The Beatles knew about it.
Not saying that applies to Psychedelia though, they fs knew about Donovan and shit.
>>
>>128079891
Ramones is probably the most influential of those you’ve listed. It’s that buzz guitar minimal chords and speediness and the very direct lyrics which are sung like slogans it didn’t only affect many branches of punk but also things like thrash metal
>>
>>128079980
If that’s true then the more influential album would be sgt peppers. It’s mathematical

NTA, probably is the most influential metal record, post Reign In Blood, if only for popularizing extended range guitars.

You vastly overestimate how many rock albums were being released in the 60's

Maybe, or Maybe you are underestimating how many were being released. I dont wanna sound like a nerd, but in fact for the last few months I began a personal study on the main psych wave of the late 60s. I have found that in 1966 there are between 100 and 200 psych albums, and 67 has aprox 500-1000 psych albums, I cant give you the list cause its a work in progress.

Faith No More but I'm not sure which album, obviously Real Thing and Angel Dust are their most popular but are those albums stylistically all that different from what they were doing with Mosley?

Sepultura - Roots

Basically every single nu-metal and adjacent lists this

Stooges - Funhouse
Helmet - In The Meantime
Black Sabbath - Paranoid

Sgt Pepper but also all the acclaimed indie music from the 90s and 2000 such as Stereolab, Shins, Wilco, AnCo, Arcade Fire etc
>>
>>128079952
oh and the concept behind pet sounds has nothing to do with Spector. The stereo version doesn’t really use wall of sound a lot
>>
