What do you guys think of it? Personally I think it sounds a lot better than 2012 remaster, but the original is still the best, to my ear. There is definitely a sense of clarity and crispness with the excellent separation of the instruments with the 2025 mix, but I think the title track in particular benefits from the thicker, more fused-together sound from 1972. I will say that the ambient section surprised me, and the calmer parts of the other two tracks benefit greatly from the new mix as well.
Regardless, as a musician, it’s neat to be able to study each instrument a little better than was previously possible. It’ll definitely be much easier for people to learn the album by ear in the future, particularly with the instrumental versions being released.
As usual, I didn’t really care for the Steve Wilson remix. He does great work, but I don’t think his style really suits the sound of Yes.

I mean, the Wilson remixes are certainly redundant, but hearing alternate takes from the band in when they were in peak form is really cool, if you’ve been autistically obsessed with this album for nearly six years like me:)
Besides, I didn’t purchase it. I have an original issue English pressing that’s in incredible shape.

how do you guys have access to so many different mixes and remasters
>>
I have a US first pressing of this album, why would I need some kind of "remaster"?

Everybody has one album they'd buy this treatment of
For me I want this for Exile on Main Street and The Pod

You'll have 2 good versions of a great album instead of 1. duh?

I can't imagine sitting around comparing different mixes of some 50 year old album.

Close to the Edge [Atlantic, 1972]
What a waste. They come up with a refrain that sums up everything they do--"I get up I get down"--and apply it only to their ostensible theme, which is the "seasons of man" or something like that. They segue effortlessly from Bach to harpsichord to bluesy rock and roll and don't mean to be funny. Conclusion: At the level of attention they deserve they're a one-idea group. Especially with Jon and Rick up front. C+

Too much crap. 10/10 album. Just needs one disc. Please stop consuming so much like a mindless drone. The landfills are getting bigger and our communities are getting smaller.

Close to the Edge is my favourite song but I'm not sure if this is worth it. The copy where I first listened to it was a European CD from 2014, may have been that bad remaster. But it was still amazing.

That album sucks and ruined the band

No more remasters. There have been enough. Also, I hope Steven Wilson dies as soon as possible, and he's the only musician on earth who I fee this way about. Even the ones who actually commit real crimes aren't having an inescapable negative effect on music like he is. The way he's been given the right to fuck up every prog album is pure nepotism that is enabled by the idiots who like his lame music and can't hear mixing or production. He took this album with magnificent sound that was recorded in 1972 and made it sound like complete shit. I swear there are parts that sound like they're playing out of a phone speaker. He also doesn't understand Close to the Edge on a compositional level because he included a ton of excess that Yes wisely sacrificed to achieve better tension and release because he doesn't understand how to compose great music. I can hear him in his British accent being like "I listened to the tapes and I realized... there's a ton of great stuff here that they just didn't use!" Fucking idiot. He also remastered Blues For Allah, so I guess he's branching out beyond prog. Being a plague on progressive rock wasn't enough for him. Fucking kill him please.

Gigachads can't understand that, they see that it's a double album with four songs and are like "durrr must be better."

>He also remastered Blues For Allah
Oh fuck off with this shit.
