New amp doesn’t have on board tremolo and I miss having it when using that amp so I’m thinking about some kind of tremolo pedal. Also thinking about some kind of Selmer Buzz Tone clone

Just got a JHS Morning Glory. I love the Benson shit, but honestly I slightly prefer the sound of the morning glory as an “always on” transient overdrive pedal. For those who have tried the Benson Preamp, the morning glory has slightly more jangle and character in the clipping. I can see why people cream their pants over this thing
>>128187618Is that an IUD on the pedal housing?
I wanted to get one of pic related before the lockdowns but they went out of stock for a few years and when they came back Digitech started using pcbs instead of handwiring them.

>>128187533they’re cool, well some of them are anyway. jamerson, bootsy, wooten. I miss playing bass sometimes. guitar just doesn’t have that power and authority that bass does
>>128187618Honestly a great pedal even though I think it's too pricey for an overdrive. Sometimes you gotta treat yourself and this is my kind of treat.
>>128187534I mean it’s nothing too exciting. I walked into a local music store cause I wanted a Les Paul standard and left with an R9. I got caught up in the marketing bullshit like it’s made with hide glue and it has custombuckers etc and yes, it’s a very nice guitar, but looking back I was wild to spend $5600 on a guitar. I actually ended up selling it for a decent price where I didn’t lose much money. Since then I’ve bought a Japanese Les Paul copy for $2k and it does everything I wanted from a Les Paul and more.

>>128188693Depends on the amount of articulation required.
>>128188699Let’s say building speed on a familiar song

>>128188707Every two weeks I'd say any longer than that and the routine just evaporates. Theres a saying it takes 3 times as long to lose something as it does to gain it so if it takes you 1 month to learn something it takes you 3 months to unlearn it.
>>128188722Interesting, never heard that. Thanks. I’m trying to make more room for improvisation at the expense of pure speed building
>>128187533John Wetton is great>>128187053My dusty as shit board. I've yet to be bothered drilling and mounting the power supply under the board. maybe i'll get a compressor or something once i have the room. In any case I'm thinking of replacing my flanger, its alright but I think it's run its course; there's an annoying pop when you turn it on, and my overall volume drops when its active, so its a bit of a bitch for lead playing. Birthday's coming up fairly soon so I might hint towards one of those Elec Lady pedals
>>128188889>donner and mooerit's not a bad board but you gotta upgrade sometime soon

>>128188925I like me mooers, my ensemble gives me a nice 80s crimson tone when running my les paul through it. The donner delay has been a serviceable pedal over the years I've had it (got it back in 2019 I think) although I think chokes on the delays a bit when running the gain reasonably high. Would a higher voltage pedal have more headroom at all?

About to go for a walk. It's foggy out. I like recording the birds and electronically altering them into melodies via time stretch and auto tune/manual pitch correction. Then learn the melodies on the guitar. Thing is, birds can't get writing credits. Matter of fact, you can steal their licks for free. And they can't do anything about it. Sucka. >>128193534That actually answers my question kek.
Got a bigger pedalboard. I don’t necessarily plan on adding much more, but it’s nice to be able to fit everything now, including my expression pedal, and have an enough real estate to space them out a bit. I went the cheap route because I want to build my own base for it to accommodate a power supply upgrade I plan on doing in the near future. The two newest pedals are the BehringerBM-13 12 stage phaser and the Flight Delay. The BM-13 is the most versatile phaser I’ve ever tried, really one of a kind. The Flight Delay is better than I was expecting based on other JHS pedals that left me underwhelmed. I’ll still be getting the BM series for a true analog delay, but the Flight Delay is worth it for the reverse delay and ability to add chorus and vibrato on top. I’m still not huge on modulation effects but they do have their place in my current set of songs.
Tell someone they have a speck in their eye when you have a plank in yours? Don't go around projecting/accusing people of mental problems. It's offensive to people that do have them. And shows a deep fear, shows that you might be describing yourself subconsciously. That kind of automatic reaction to disagreement is obvious to see. And very sad to those that see it every day. The level of guitar discourse could be much better. But not all are capable of genuine conversation yet.

>>128195225soulless boring generic playing
>>128195460Yes I've played hundreds of live gigs and setup / sound check usually takes about an hour with analog gear. It's more about not having to haul a bunch of heavy sharp shit in my car and then remember what effects I'm supposed to turn on and off while I'm playing. Hate that shit. Maybe you like it cause you're quirky and different, I don't. I just want to play my guitar. I have a real pedalboard and tube amp I never use anymore, but it does just have a few MXR and Boss pedals on it.

>>128195566>setup / sound check usually takes about an hour with analog gear. The gear being analog has nothing to do with adding half an hour+ to setup. Moving a cab and head into place then pointing a mic at the "V" on the grill cloth takes 5 minutes tops. Why are you always so confrontational when someone calls you on shit like this?
>>128195635Call me out on what? Not liking pedalboards? I can like whatever I want. You're just goalpost shifting and making it all about me saying it takes extra time to set up and dial in for soundcheck which was one of several reasons I don't like them. >>128187224Transcription (by ear) of fragments of melodies/solos that you enjoy is a really effective way to get out of this sort of rut. Once you've figured out a lick or phrase, play it in different keys, displace where it begins in a bar, play it with different articulations and inflections at a variety of tempos. Many great improvisers have gone through this process at some point. There are more academic/systematic approaches but usually this sort of thing is the most intuitive.
>>128196366Also try singing out loud rhythmic phrases without worrying about specific notes, focussing on syncopation and articulation above all else. As you improvise, imagine you're a drummer, not a guitarist. Shit like that.
>>128196357I keep forgetting contemporary/paranormal exist. >>128197210the 12 and 7 make sense which are locations of the octave and harmonics and 7 is also the 5th and octave of the open strings. 3 was probably for the open chords. 5 and 9 was probably just inbetween those. first fret markers are ugly and gay >still never buying a 4chan pass

I have a guitar maintenance questionI want to give guitar a try without investing a lot of money, I managed to get this old guitar for free but it needs new bridge? I guess it's called, the thing where the strings rest between the string mount and the sound hole in the body. I got one online along with the bone thing that rests in it, but it has two holes I take it for screwing it into the body of the guitar - the old one that fell out of the guitar wasn't screwed or glued on, it just sat against the body under the string tension. This new one has holes for the strings to go through before going over the bone part. I felt around the inside of the guitar and I don't feel like there's any part that's thicker to receive the screws. I guess two small screws to hold the bridge in place can't hurt?
>>128197650Bro no offense but this job is currently beyond your skill level. Also you probably bought a shit bridge if it has screw holes. You need to buy one that looks exactly like the one you had. Take it to a guitar tech.If you insist on doing it yourself, post a pic of the guitar and bridge you want to replace. Repairing the old one might be easier
>>128197642>no matching tele:(
>>128197499>they are easily the most retarded instrumentalistsand I wouldn’t have it any other way, retard gang RISE UP
>>128197650Sounds like your guitar is supposed to have a floating bridgeFloating bridge is not fixed to the guitar body. You change the intonation by moving the bridge back and forth or tilt it
>>128197704I mean I don't worry about breaking anything because it's an old soviet shitter from like probably 70s, I'm waiting for the other bone part that goes on the neck to come in the mail. Old one was just a triangular piece of wood with notches in it sitting loose under the strings, I could whittle that if i needed to
>>128197650mostly Gibson used bolts to hold the bridge to the top although it was also glued. I can’t think of any other builder that did that. the bone part is called the saddle. you can just glue it with wood glue and clamp it really well but it needs to be lined to perfectly so the guitar intonates correctly. you need to make sure both gluing surfaces are perfectly flat and it takes very particularly shaped clamps to get inside of an acoustic guitar. it’s doable by yourself but outside of a neck reset it’s probably one of the hardest repair jobs to do right on a guitar. I’m a big advocate for doing your own work but maybe leave this one to a professional unless you are okay with removing it with heat and a spreader, it flying off in the future, or potentially ruining that guitar. you can absolute drill holes in the top of the guitar and attach it with bolts if you don’t care how it looks or whether it lasts 50 years. Just make sure you use the biggest and best fitting washers you can on the underside that don’t block the bridge pins for the strings. that will stave off cracking the bridge plate as long as possible. due to this design there is always a forward torquing motion that wants to lift the back end of the bridge and push the front end into the guitar
>>128197764post a picture of what you have, I think >>128197737 is right and it's an entirely different type of bridge. What's broken about the old bridge, just that it doesn't stay in place? These bridges are meant to move.
>>128197704>>128197737oh and I checked the nearest guitar tech and for a full service on that guitar I could get a new one from the store - I just wanna give it a try low cost and see if I like it. This is what it looks like, the old bridge was rattling inside the box when I got it
>>128197824trapeze tailpiece guitars wouldn’t have pin holes drilled in the top. it’s entirely possible the original bridge came unglued and the previous owner didn’t want to fix it
>>128197833well damn I stand corrected. yeah bro you need an arch top saddle for that guitar. the strings go through that black tailpiece. I thought you said there were holes in the top lol
>>128197870can I not use the saddle I already have and just not screw it into anything? they all seem to use the same bone sliver where the strings sit anywaythe bridge I already got is meant to be screwed in, and it has holes for the strings to thread through - I could just not thread them and to me it looks it would be functionally the same?
>>128197642Do you ever get the feeling that you have too many guitars and get the urge to sell/trade some cheaper ones for some nicer ones? I’m not saying you have too many guitars or that they aren’t nice, I’m just asking. I’ve got more guitars than I need and while I really like them all I always feel like I should trim the fat and let some go and focus on a just a couple that I like the best.
>>128197898yes use the old one. tune your high and low e string and you’ll know it’s in the right position if the 12th fret is perfectly in tune with the open string
>>128197833yes, thats a floating bridge, there's nothing broken about it unless you can't hold the strings in the slots or they're too low. Worst case scenario you can make a new one out of wood copying the design exactly but adjusting for height. If the strings are currently too high (and they usually are on old guitars(=), sand the bottom of the bridge on a flat surface slowly. But yeah this takes experience to really know what you're doing and balancing everything correctly, any acoustic guitar tech can easily set you up. This would fall under guitar setup not repair really. Maybe you're lucky and you won't need to do much.
>>128197898there appears to be nothing wrong with the original one. knowing that information, do you still want to go through the laborious and risky processing of using the one you just bought?
>>128197963>>128197920the old one is chewed up and uneven height, that's why I thought it warranted replacement
>>128197986fair point. I mean yeah you can totally drill and bolt that new one on there but you’ll need to triple check that the location of the new saddle is going to intonate the strings correctly. I also can’t even put on estimate on how long that arrangement will last due to the difference in bracing construction and the top being weakened with the holes. Im not even sure if there is a bridge plate in that guitar, which if there isn’t it will never hold without one. you’d have to make one. I would strongly advise against it and try looking for a replacement bridge like that or just tracing and cutting on a bandsaw like the other guy suggested.
>>128198064I mean I can always just send back the bridge I ordered, just point me where do I buy a proper one, googling for arch top bridge for acoustics just shows me aliexpress crap
>>128198106you can sand the arch out of it by just placing the sandpaper on the top of the guitar where the saddle is going to go. I’m concerned about the overall height on the adjustable ones. I also don’t know about any shipping limitations for you. Here are two https://www.cbgitty.com/other-guitar-instrument-parts/brass-floating-bridge-guitar-and-banjo-styles-usa-made
>>128198106nigga the bridge you have is fine, just cut some new string slots approximately here. Any other adjustments you'll have to do after putting strings on and finding out what to do as far as string height. Also polish those frets.
>>128198169that easy? I'll maybe call a guitar shop anyway since I have to get the other bridge before I string it anyway
>>128198167nice, thanks. Does it need grooves cut into it for the strings? I would probably prefer a metal one since it would probably last a lifetime
>>128198292yes, your bridge/guitar isn't broken. Your next step after this is string height. You will find out what to do next after you've put strings on it.
>>128198329yeah but only just deep enough to keep the strings from moving side to side. barely a groove at all. I’d still suggest getting the original working like the other guy said to at least see what shape the guitar is in under string tension
>>128198447okay I'll report in when I have the other bridge and I can string it

>>128197707Oh, it niggles me anon… there’s a G&L ASAT with matching headstock, fiesta red but I’m pretty dead set on having a full set of fenders in that spec. I will very likely spec a custom shop Deluxe Tele in this spec sooner than later.>>128197904I have in the past and have regretted it nearly every single time. I may at some point, but I’d be more likely to give them a good home as opposed to sell them. If I met someone whose heart is in it and needed a decent guitar, I could part with the P90 Mustang or one of my Squiers. The two Jags, all the fiesta red guitars and the other Mustangs all feel like lifers to me though, it would be hard to choose which two to grab in a house fire. It would probably be the fiesta Strat and Jag, the Jag is MIJ 2025 with alder body, American pure vintage pickups and the nicest fender offset I’ve ever played and I have played well over a hundred enough so to compare them. Those nips are blowing away Corona Fender at least when it comes to offsets these days, but frankly even the American Ultra guitars feel like old MIMs now to my hands.
>>128199062Fender really doesn't catch enough flak for their garbage QC
>>128199301yeah I won’t buy anything “made” in California. my American original was decent enough but you’re basically paying a $1000 service charge for nitro
>>128199062If you’re not dead set on it saying Fender on the headstock look into K-Line for a custom build. His stuff has a stellar reputation. You could have a handmade master built custom guitar with his prices starting at $3k, which is a lot but FCS stuff currently goes for like $5k starting. You can get used FCS stuff for under $3k regularly but good luck finding specifically what you want down to a T used. I’m currently setting cash aside to commission a K-Line Tele build. I’m still on the fence if I want to be a Fender whore and pay for the name but that’s a lot of money for a specific build
>>128199452make it look exactly like a fender just leave the headstock blank if the builder is ok with that. maybe get him stamp it on the back with his logo. I think it’s a good compromise. it’s what a lot of builders do with d18/d28 clones because it’s hard to get people away from the brand but making the headstock look almost identical helps a lot. pic not the best example but you get the point. it’s actually kind of ingenious because of a lot of these logos will naturally get lost or destroyed over time since they’re just a water slide or silk screen
>>128199517Martin themselves does that for dealers who get custom models that are left of field. Guess they don't want their logo on it if it's not similar to anything in current lineup.
>>128199320I love the AO. It's all I have atm.Never seen these nightmare QC jobs others do. Had some Player Plus MIMs for awhile and they were nice too. It used to be pretty bad, but Mexico has been at this for like 30 years.
