>le ebin wrong notes XD
>why should I ever resolve my phrases
>le off tempo is le swing XD
>you’re just too stupid to understand
>thinks they’re Einstein because they read a book on music theory
>yet can’t figure out how to write borderline basic melodies
Why are Jazz musicians such tryhard losers? Why can’t they just get good?

The fact jazz is so memed that you think I’m doing a bit is proof it’s actually a joke.
>>
When will they learn dominant 7 chords sound like mush and no one likes hearing them no matter how “useful” they are for “soloing” (random noises with no throughline or tired pre-hearses arpeggios with no creative alteration or interpretation beyond le wrong notes and le swing)
>>
>Be me, 19
>Be invited to play in jazz fusion band
>all the other players are state music teachers and members of the city’s concert band
>im just a self taught musician
>given boatload of sheets of jazz music to learn basically overnight
>learn all the material and learn to read the lead sheets in about 2 weeks and go play with them
>there’s a rock song in our set (24 or 6 to four)
>im a rock guitarist
>everyone likes that song more than everything else in our set based on their response in every single venue every single time
Spare me the “you don’t understand jazz” it’s not an intellectual achievement, it’s just masking your lack of musical talent in theoretical gatekeeping. Energy, heart, and drive, beat theoretical complexity every time. Jazz is just for people who don’t get it.
They’ll never get why rockstars get all the babes.

Jazz is incredible when you listen to it high on weed though. You can really hear and every single instrument and take your mind to some suave jazz club where you can really feel the music maaaaan

Also, you're retarded OP, you do like Jazz, I'm willing to bet you don't mind more mainstream flavors of Jazz like Big Band and Bossa Nova. Hell, one of the most successful pieces of music of the 20th century is a Jazz piece, Take Five by Dave Brubeck. Not only is the version of Jazz you have in your head a complete strawman, but I also think you're overthinking freestyle or more traditional jazz styles which is why you're soured on it. If you stop overthinking jazz, and just immerse yourself in its broader musical textures rather than cherrypicking individual scales or time signatures, I think it'll click for you. Just give it a chance. Or you know, just listen to it while stoned

Shut up nerd, don’t speak for me. The only jazz I really like is Mary Lou Williams.

I’m so glad the meme I posted about this dork popped off about 3 years ago when I exposed all these music YouTubers for being unable to write listenable music. We seriously need to get to the bottom of this. Where do these collier-Tim Henson creatures spawn out of?
>>
>>128217528
My opinions on Collier have kind of changed, I used to be in the crown that just saw him as soulless, overly sterilized slop, but I respect his collaborations with other musicians and even some of his acoustic work
>>
>>128217400
I didn’t say it was bad. I said it was simple. The masses are narrowminded, so they enjoy easy listenings.

“easy listening” is the same thing as saying a painting is “nice to look at”
It’s quite literally the point of music brother.

>in my balls in my balls!
Yes, I love this kind of shit, in fact he needs to do more shit like this honestly.
>>
>>128217676
See I find this overdone to the point that it loses its strength. It’s sometimes good to just let good be good enough. I’m trying to outdo himself he ends up sacrificing the integrity of what are actually great hooks by his colleague. Unfortunately, it takes the “funk” out of the whole thing and it just eclecticises (needed a new word) its way out of the “yay it’s funky let’s dance” vibe which is the WHOLE POINT of FUNK. Someone needs to just tell him to just let the song groove, it’s fine. Save your chops for the next one. You know?
>>
>>128217722
I don't see this as funk or groove though, I see it as a pastiche of some 80s arthouse electronic musicians and it works for me in that respect
>>
>>128217741
>I don't see this as funk
>song literally says “There’s a funky feeling in my bones in my bones I got that funky feelin’”
Why not just admit he doesn’t know what the fuck he’s doing
>>
>>128217825
You're just reading too deeply into the lyrics my guy, Heavy Metal Drummer by Wilco isn't a metal song either you know?
>>
>>128217839
I’m reading too deeply into the lyrics thinking “there’s a funky feeling in my bones” is supposed to be a funk song.
You guys literally think your farts don’t smell.

>Oh I’m sorry, did you order the “rainbow trout?” You’re reading too deeply into the menu, it’s actually a frogs-legs pastiche.
>>
>>128217671
No it isn't. It's like how reading a book for babies will be easier to read than some great work of literature. Easy listening = simple, easy to comprehend, consonant
The fact that you don't even understand this point shows how much of a retard you are.
Your scenario is also retarded because you say you're a rock guitarist, not a jazz musician. So I'm guessing your jazz is going to be shit. And learning "lead sheets" is not enough to actually play jazz. You need to know how to improvise
>>
>wake up before the sun
>drive to my office job an hour before we open
>be the only employee in the office

It’s not high art. It’s just a comfy way to start the day.

Everyone knows the best jazz music is somber, more relaxing, and more bluesy.
As a matter of fact Blues > Jazz and lets' just leave it at that.

bad bait most jazz has resolved phrases and pretty basic melodies. its actually sad people think bebop is some uber complex style of music that is untouchable. most of the best jazz came out of opening the genre and abandoning the excess of bebop and genre dogmatism
>>
>>128217365
>>128217456
the emphasis of conversations around jazz being too complex is always surface level so it never goes anywhere. im sorry if this is a hard pill to swallow but jazz isnt complicated or hard to listen to. also complexity isnt at odds at so called "soul" or "energy". people need to admit theyre just stupid and i dont mean this in a "jazz is for smart people" way but that the bar is really that low and midwits think theyre special for liking jazz
