The fact that you can get a playable, good sounding acoustic with a rosewood fretboard for 259 dollars in 2025 is insane. Rosewood fretboards are usually a 200 dollar upgrade on guitars. They have to be losing money on these to earn brand loyalty in the future.

Considering running one of these with my stadium for those super lush gilmour solos and to add real tube toan to my digital rig. It's an interesting concept. Maybe just use it for like a dedicated lead switch.

Do you think about the chord progressions when improvising? Do you always rest target notes in the chord I?

Most people dont go past the 12 fret, or more precisely past the usual cowboy chords.

Its like how most dudes dont use anything but the bridge pickup.

>>
>>128218879
No. Anything I want to do higher than 21 I can bend to. I don’t really solo past the 19th fret even on 24 fret guitars. I can easily bend 21 to 25 if I need a 24th fret note with a half step bend in it nbd.

>>
>>128218879
I technically don't count since I got rid of mine but I used to have a 21 fret Telecaster and not having the 22nd fret bothered me so much that I had to get rid of it. Good guitar, but I do need the extra fret, I'm up there often and I did feel limited by not having it. Now as pertains to 22 versus 24 frets, that's a bigger consideration, because neck tone which is very important to me is being altered. You can get good neck tones on a 24 fretter but it's never quite the same.
>>
>>128219679
Was gonna respond to the relic guy up above saying I still can't get into them, but actual old as shit guitars like this I think look great. It reminds me of something like a mythical old sword with patina and vines and stuff growing over it. Relic due to honest use on 50+ year old guitars can look good, I guess that's my compromise.

Currently building a Bass VI from parts and I'm really trying to emphasize the bass part of it, rather than the baritone aspect. I'm gonna put a set of .24-.105s on them, put a humbucker in the neck to get a nice low end sound, and maybe put a Lace Sensor in the middle to get more of a mid bite, something that can cut through while distorted, and nothing in the bridge position.
>what 6 string guitar pickups are really good for capturing the mids/lows of a Bass VI with really heavy strings?
>>
>>128220922
>I've always wanted a 6 string bass tuned to EADGBE, but almost every one I look for is in BEADGC, so I got interested in the VI, but apparently because it has single coils, lighter strings, and a 30 inch scale, it doesn't really cut it as a standalone bass, so I thought, why not combine the best of both worlds?

I’ve never specifically wanted a relic and would never deliberately choose one or pay more for one, but I have two relic guitars just because they were local, priced well and played and sounded great. I think relics are fine when you approach them purely from the standpoint of if it’s a good guitar regardless of its finish.

Supposedly their QC on average is better than F and G in general when you pick them off the rack. Have you tried a few? I've only tried a McCarty 10 top once, it was just okily dokily feel wise but I don't like gloss necks and they never come with SS frets. Set up was medium action as well but it's probably due to owner's preference.

Occasionally I see some faggot luthiers on youtube complaining about fretwork even on guitars with rolled edges. I think they're full of shit and trying to sell their own stuff. Why can’t charvel put out pro mod plus models of the so-cal with JB/59? Why is it the San dimas model that has the warmer more vintage pickups? It makes no sense. I want a guitar that looks like this but sounds like the San dimas I had in white. I want it to look as warm and versatile as it sounds. It’s so frustrating. I almost just want to buy one and swap the pickups because other than the pickups it’s exactly what I want. If I can make enough money by the 10th and they’ll give me 20% off again I guess I’ll order it and just get a set of jb/59’s for it.
>>
>>128225425
Just swap pickups when you have the cash for them, it’s not like SDs are hard to find or terribly expensive. You could always sell the stock pickups to get some of that money back too
>>
>>128225471
Yeah I think that’s what I’m gonna do cause other than the color I loved that white one. The neck is perfect, it sounded and played great. I can’t go back to a regular Floyd after the push in trem. It just makes it easier cause I know I play that guitar really well and enjoy all the features but the color and look wasn’t ideal for the type of music I play. Hopefully I can get one ordered by the time my stadium xl comes in. I just have to door dash 12 hours a day for the next 2 weeks.
>>
>>128225523
I wasn’t into that white color at all, it looked like printer paper white. Off white/creamy white/aged white/cum white is a good color but printer paper white is too sterile looking.
>>
>>128225564
Yeah I wasn’t that into it either. But it was either that or flat black. At least this one will look like a regular Strat to most people so if I’m playing classic rock or pop stuff it won’t look completely out of place. It’s easier to swap pickups than do anything with the aesthetics.

What is it called when you slide up into a note? Say you’re playing a lead and descending down you strings and instead of going from your index on the G string to your pinky on the D string you instead use your middle or ring on the D string and slide up a step or two into the note you’d otherwise be hitting with your pinky? Is there a name for that? I use my pinky all the time but when I’m lazy or if what I’m playing isn’t really requiring 100% focus I end up defaulting to using another finger to slide up to the note instead of just reaching one or two frets farther away with my pinky.

While probably true, bad technique is the reason many guitarists are unique and interesting to listen to. Hendrix and evh both had horrible picking techniques.
>>
>>128229881
yes I studied james jamerson who only played bass with one finger. he relied heavily on open strings and and rakes to maintain rhythm at brisk tempos. you can incorporate those idiosyncrasies without developing bad technique tho

Yeah I mean that’s horrible technique completely but hendrix would invert his pick so he could use the pinky area of his palm to mute strings and chords. I use the same technique almost always unless I’m doing pinch harmonics or shredding. Eddie would use his thumb and middle finger to pick so he could have his index finger free for tapping while still keeping rhythm with his pick. There are a lot of players that slide in and out of notes either because their pinky is too weak or their hands are too small (Angus young) and that just becomes a part of their style. Even gilmour has an unorthodox way of fretting open chords (he uses his index to fret two strings at the same time) to give him more fingers for alternate voicings and a passing chords. It’s really hard to play any of their stuff if you don’t copy their technique. The intro to speak to me / breathe is a good example because all the little fills require that you don’t lift your finger off the D string to keep it fluid. Same thing with the intro to enter sandman and call of ktulu and other weird things hetfield does. Technically it’s all bad technique but it’s for a purpose.

>>
>>128218009
hi first time itt, I'm a beginner and I was wondering how do you chose from which side you're picking?
for example if I have an arpeggio 6 -> 5 -> 4 -> 3rd string should I always go upward or alternate between picking upward and downward? first one seems to be easier to achieve without even looking but tempo is quite more difficult, the second one is harder but better for a stable tempo

also is there a good practice on how to place your finger when nothing is specified on a tab? I tend to overuse my pinky for some spacing that are hard to get with other fingers but then I have less strength

For left hand fingering most advise using the "one fret per finger" rule. For example, to play frets 5, 6, 7, and 8 on the low E string you would use fingers 1, 2, 3, and 4 of your left hand. If you had to play frets 5, 7, and 9 on the same string I think most would use fingers 1, 2, and 4; that's how Yngwie would do it, but some play it with fingers 1, 3, and 4 (Paul Gilbert, for example). If you had to play a pattern using frets 5, 7, 8; I think most would advise using fingers 1, 3, and 4; I think Petrucci and Gilbert would play it that way, however Yngwie would likely use fingers 1, 2, and 4 to play the same figure.

As for picking I think you just need to try a bunch of different styles and go with what feels most natural to you. Some use strict alternate picking, some guys like Bluegrass flatpickers will use alternate picking in a way where they make sure to always play downstrokes on down beats (kinda tricky for playing repeating triplets, imo, but they manage somehow). Jimmy Bruno advises what I call "Directional Picking" which is essentially: If the pick is moving to a thinner string (higher pitched string / string closer to the floor) you ALWAYS* use a downstroke, whereas if the pick is moving to a thicker string (lower pitched string / string closer to the ceiling) you ALWAYS* use an upstroke [*he makes exceptions for certain patterns based on comfort and whether the line is slower (allowing more picking flexibility), has rests, needs strong accents on certain notes, etc]. Generally I think if you're picking a line that uses 1 note per string on several adjacent strings, you should use sweep/economy picking for those figures, but some guys like Steve Morse and Anton Oparin (mentioned ITT) strictly alternate pick these sequences as well. When it comes to changing direction when sweeping I've seen guys use either stroke effectively, so I guess just use what's comfortable/natural to you. Sorry for the essay.

They were old from the 30s or something, but the founder died long ago. They made a lot of prized jazz boxes before rock took off. I think they got revived in the 2000s or somewhere close and reissued some old stuff and came out with new things as well..like that ES model.
Most of their stuff isn't stripped down like that, but real ornate and Art Deco like. It's not for everyone. Not sure it's for me either. That's why I got that black one. I usually play Fenders.
>>

>>128231665
Left hand fingering look up the fundamentals of classical guitarists, that has worked for centuries. That's the one finger per fret and playing frets 5 7 and 8 with index ring pinky like Paul Gilbert. But they play a lot of chord + melody ala piano. If the direction you wanna go is pure shreddery, if you had long enough fingers lots of self taught shredders live by fingers index middle and ring due to the pinky being weak - see Shawn Lane and I think he talked about this in a clinic excerpt (all those virtuoso shredders do still have facility with the pinky). I'd still recommend the first.

For picking I lean into Anton Oparin's philosophy of "universal technique" like how Olympic level athletes swim/run/do whatever athletics look synchronized and similar due to being highly optimized by coaches and physiologists. At the same time I think a sub 5 foot asian prodigy shredding and a 6'6" mountain like Greg Koch will find different optimal motions and positions due to the glaring hand size difference.
But whatever you do, don't copy Steve Morse method of handling the pick as it gave him injuries
And for your sake, bury yourself in a method book instead and away from /gg/ as we're 90% retards and schizos. Good luck
