How is your process when improvising? Do you think about the chord progressions and its changes? Do you always rest target notes in the chord I? Please, let's share!

You have to preheat the note in your mind’s ear before you play it

I look up the black balls on the grid then check what letter it is.

In the wise words of Van Halen "I just play shit until something good comes up", or something. He actually said something like that you can look it up. Now... that's for improvising everything, writing a song basically. Just play shit and when it sounds good you mark it down.
If I were to improvise with somebody else I have no idea what I would do to make it sound natural. I think guitar playing takes a lot of preparation when done in group. I'm no Jerry Garcia, I think the Grateful Dead had a lot of rehearsing and planning ahead for instance.

I just play the frets that have the little dots on them

Practice with a clear purpose, then forget about all of it when you're actually performing and just allow yourself to get carried away. It really is like that. You put different parts of your brain at work during practice and during improvisation.

I make a pouty face and bend the high e string.
Worked for Gilmour

I don't improvise when I'm improvising.
Practice licks, chops, chord progressions, learn them at heart and then just use them in the tonality you want.

Is it possible to have no fret buzz with low action on a Les Paul? I had to raise action on mine even after it came from a setup to remove the buzzing which was pretty noticeable on higher frets. Sometimes I feel like I'm getting some weird harmonics still when playing with distortion though that might be cause of pickups or eq I dunno. Also still need to sand the nut slots because the strings are still getting stuck in them and staying in tune is impossible. I swear, all my local techs must be retarded.
