Is it possible to have no fret buzz with low action on a Les Paul? I had to raise action on mine even after it came from a setup to remove the buzzing which was pretty noticeable on higher frets. Sometimes I feel like I'm getting some weird harmonics still when playing with distortion though that might be cause of pickups or eq I dunno. Also still need to sand the nut slots because the strings are still getting stuck in them and staying in tune is impossible. I swear, all my local techs must be retarded.

you have to run less neck relief the lower your action is. you’d need to pick the strings perfectly parallel to the top of the guitar to not get any buzz because the string moves side to side when it vibrates. this isn’t a les paul specific problem, it’s just a fundamental physics problem
>>
>>128237397
Yes he does

What do you guys recommend polishing your frets with? I know some people say 000 steel wool, but that seems like it's an annoyance to clean even if you tape off the pickups.

Is strat a cuck shape for a guitar?
>>
>>128237663
nah, they're too normal
legally distinct strats are cuck shapes
>>
>>128237685

How I understood things is that if you plan on playing an instrument on stage, you should strive for sound and comfort. Not bring the pointiest guitar in existence.
>>
>>128237663
A Strat is unforgiving and janky but shines in the right hands. It reveals who the real cuck is or not.

My meanest sounding guitar is a strat, with Ibanez RG being the close second. A strat will get dings and bangs and scratches but it still will retain its shape.

>>
>>128237893
The Dreadnought and Strat go hand in hand. Or at least a Tele. They're both the same scale as Martins. Along with Classical guitar scales. While Gibsons are modeled after their own acoustics and jazz boxes. The redhead stepchild of guitar design.

You can put Tele pickups or a PAF in a Strat and now you have the best of both, but you can't put the full power of a Strat into anything else without making some compromises and alot of routing.

Hot single coils like quarter pounds or stacked coils. You'll get like P90 tone at least. If you want to still sound like a Strat but hot, they still retain clarity and lack the muffled tone of an HB (in comparison to single coil, HBs are muffled..you don't notice it much if you don't compare). The popular choice are hot rails, but those muffled too.
>>
>>128238345
Nta but the p90 has the right amount of compression, the quarter pound is close but has more clarity, and the humbuckers are too compressed.

Hello
What is /mu/‘s go to resource for learning guitar from the ground up?
I have a basic understanding of music theory, and am interested in most forms of popular music
I haven’t played guitar for some time but have still have basic residual hand strength and CAGED system understanding
If I had to choose a guitar genre particularly it would most probably be post hardcore / emo
Thanks in advance

Probably because the playability isn't as good as on regular guitars. I only ever played a 12 string acoustic but i'd imagine that fast riffing would be kinda complicated.
Only example i can think of is Matt Pike from High on Fire who plays a 9 string with the top 3 strings being doubled.

Too much low mids (200~400 Hz), generally. Or simply not enough highs.
Assuming a GE-7 or similar graphic EQ, a cut at 200 and/or 400 Hz and boost at 3.2k Hz works wonders for clarity.

Looks like my stadium xl and 212cl powercab preorder is getting returned. Idk. I figured everything out. Sweetwater is going to do this guitar for 1145, plus 299 for the plek with a dive only block included, 1500 shipped. Then I’m going to order the jb/59 pickups from Duncan with gold covers and have my luthier install them. I’ll have all the money I need to finish my car, and I can just buy a used helix for 700ish and another powercab for 500 when I have the money. I’ll be gtg for rehearsing and gigging by December.

I said guitar center gave me 20% off the white one and asked if he could help me out on the price cause I’d rather buy from them.

This is the rock band experience most people don't realize about

Sometimes I'm torn between the two. It's easy to physical examine or make returns with GC. But Sweetwater's gallery is...sweet.

>MiM not-Fender
At this point get a Schecter.
>>

NTA but Charvel is Fender basically. And they use better parts than Fender's MIMs. They have graphite reinforced necks, far more roasted and ebony options, usually SD pups.

I don't want to play anything. I only play to prove myself I can play. I'm not interested in learning songs, I'd rather play some exercises or intros.
I need more dopamine and I need it more often, so I only enjoy playing short pieces or something I already know.

Bad state of mind man. You will brun out.

If this is normal I understand why nobody wants to be in a band. Seems like hell

[... Scene...]
(Narrator Mark Walberg) (Overhead shot of Gary walking through Gulfport to the train station)
'Young Gary Greaser doesn't go home after getting his resonator. There was no home left without his old man. Just a forgotten dream. His old man died on the battlefield of Europe. Storming a pillbox with no hope of survival. But his squad got away."
*Flash to Gary imagining the horror, cut scene to his father saving his squad in a heroic last stand*
Camera behind Gary now

He somberly gets on the train to New Orleans

Camera fades out

A stage in a club. 1968 spears on the screen in big yellow numbers
A mid 40s Gary Greaser walks on stage and is handed his resonator. He's opening for Muddy Waters. He's nervous for the first time in years... He looks at his band, steps up to the microphone "Last time I played this club you all threw bottles at me. You called me a pussy ass bitch. But you didn't leave. Thanks for listening. This one's in B minor if anybody wants to blow along", they went into an 20 minute abstract cover of Champagne and Reefer. Muddy Waters Scowling with his arms crossed at the side of the stage...
Cut to Gary sitting in the greenroom during Muddy's set. The club manager bursts in with a snub nose revolver. "Pull a stunt like that again you never play in this town again.", Gary didn't blink, when the guy got close enough, like a cat, Gary got his thumb between the hammer of the revolver, and spun him into a chokehold. Guy tapped out. Gary put the revolver in his waistband. "This belongs to me now, until you learn how to behave, son. Now run along and think about what you done". Garry went into the alley to his motorcycle. Peeled out and drove into the setting sun.

Going to California starts playing.

Maybe guitar isn't for me. I've been playing on and off for a decade and now I'm trying to push myself with RS2014. There are missions and other shit like progression etc, but IDK why am I doing it, probably for the ingame points alone. I'm not planning to record anything or be in a band. In my mind playing guitar is "cool". Playing what? When? For who? IDK

Why force yourself into a hobby that you barely like any aspect of? Do something else with your time instead

current Ibanez is fucking shite, subpar instruments

I chose sweetwater because I want to get the guitar plek’d. There aren’t any shops in my state that do it. But I still may change my mind and pick up a used Les Paul when I get to guitar center today. Has to be the right one though.

Like what for example? I'm not sure if I really like anything besides playing videogames.
>>
>>128245466
Uh oh they have a Les Paul standard 50s in tobacco burst for 1600 I might actually take that guy home.

>They have graphite reinforced necks, far more roasted and ebony options, usually SD pups
The higher-end SVSS have similar specs for similar prices.
I'll be honest I have no experience with modern Charvels but I'm skeptical towards anything modern Fender that's lower than American Pro.

They also have a 60s standard in iced tea burst for 1900 I’m pretty sure I’m going home with a real given Les Paul

It took about 40 minutes of doodling around before I found a setting I liked with the bass whammy. 1 more pedal to show up tomorrow and I'll have everything I need to copy brian gibson's sound. I got kinda close using the 5th octave on the whammy with oc5, and both overdrives. Adding the chorus and reverb didnt take away much it sounded cool and the aftershock pedal heavy setting sounds good with this combo. I think I have a jam coming up soon so I'll be happy if things work out with the DL4 Modeler.

honestly found it interesting, I feel like if you worked on some conventional technique, learn some jazz or classical etudes, and then threw it all away and came back to this sort of thing it would be even better. Also your fretting hand is absolutely fucked my man
