How would (You) rank their later stuff?
they are a terrible band on a fundamental level, any shifts in form dont really matter.
>>128248535Not great, not terrible.
I like how sound-dust shifted to a more jazzy lounge sound. it wasn't amazing but I enjoyed it. margerine eclipse I've heard probably 3-4 times and can't remember a single song. they go really generic here. after that I stopped listening to anything further
>>128248535Chemical Chords > Sound Dust > MargerineNot Music doesn't count.
>>128248535they're mildly enjoyable albums, but they all pale in comparison to their '90s output. Most of the tracks sounds pretty generic, like they were made by another band trying to copy Stereolab's style.for hardcore fans only
>>128249430I disagree. I feel a lot of their earlier tracks were pretty generic, like they were made by a band trying to copy Can, Neu, and Suicide's style. Dots and Loops and after is when Stereolab started to sound distinctly Stereolab to me.
>>128249471Dots and Loops came out in 1997. The next one, Cobra and Phases is a '90s album too.Sound-Dust (2001) to me basically marks the end of the classic era.I can agree that some of the early tracks are derivative of the bands you mentioned, but by the second album (Transient Random-Noise Bursts) they were already beyond that.I think 1993-1997 was the band's peak.
Sound-Dust is the one album that I don't care for at all. Margerine Eclipse is probably their best post-Dots album I guess. Chemical Chords almost sounds like a different band altogether but it's not bad. Never listened to Not Music.
>>128248535Top 2 albums are both really good.
>>128249014You're in every Stereolab thread. Kys faggot
>>128248535Rendered obsolete by Broadcast.
