Every decade or so, a decent but derivative jazz album gets mainstream appeal among posers, usually the "sophisticated bachelor pad" weirdos who can only interact with jazz music in a shallow, superficial manner. It's a phenomenon as boring as it is predictable. No one will remember this album in 5-10 years when the next one replaces it.
>>

hiromi is far too technical for fukui fans who only want "vibes". she literally expresses too many ideas/emotions for these assembly-line automatons

It's crazy how for generations, jazz fans and even musicians would openly call legends out for not being to their taste. I've seen many conversations where people with loads of civility will call anyone from Coltrane to Monk "overrated". But the moment you say that about some random zoomer icon like Ryo, it's incessant temper tantrums and the like. Maybe they're just a fragile, entitled generation.
>>

that album is much better than scenery, so you're not missing out on very much. early summer is a decent song with a nice drum solo though, the rest of the album is pleasant but very forgettable unless it is literally the first jazz album you have heard

Millennials have higher suicide rates though, LMAO
>>
The whole reason why the album is good is because it's predictable and simple for jazz
It's the kind of thing I can put on for people who don't like jazz or find most jazz too hard to listen to
It's also very japanese in feel, and paints japanese "scenery" well
As a jazz album it's average or slightly below, but as music it has a niche it fills well
I don't know what you'd search to find more japanese-pleb-cafe-core

You can cope all you want. But this does not reverse the inevitable process of aging. You are not able to accept that you are growing old, you haven't been able to build a family due to your hedonism, likely do not have a wife and death is rapidly approaching. All you can do is seethe about those younger than you on a dead website which is a shadow of it's former self and has none of the impact it used to have, all because you desperately want to relive your glory days of sitting in front of a computer screen. You will never have the opportunity to reverse the choices you made as it is too late. Your miserable state of being is going to continue until you leave this world.

Derivative music is okay if it attains the heights of what it's trying to achieve. Scenery does just that. What jazzfags fail to recognize is that:

1. sticking to the core of a genre is always a derivative thing to do, no matter what genre
2. After the development of free jazz and new instruments (after the 19600s), virtually everything using the classic instruments and methods is by definition derivative, since countless new avenues opened up for (jazz) music.

>why do oldfags come to a site started by oldfags

>>
>>128271123

The central point is that his playing is derivative of Bill Evans and McCoy Tyner. But there is no non-derivative (ie; no innovative) jazz piano possible after the 60s. So who cares?
>>
>>128270561
>sticking to the core of a genre is always a derivative thing to do, no matter what genre
wrong. individuality in jazz mainly comes from improvisation, and ryo's solos have no individuality as people have pointed out hundreds of times over the years
>After the development of free jazz and new instruments (after the 19600s), virtually everything using the classic instruments and methods is by definition derivative, since countless new avenues opened up for (jazz) music
wrong again. jazz isn't like other genres that are more heavily defined by their timbre or instrumentation, like electronica for example. like classical, jazz is mainly designated by its harmonic vocabulary and rhythmic concepts. you're applying pop/rock logic to a genre that has very little in common with them. free jazz also wasn't that innovative within jazz boundaries compared to post-bop or progressive big band, both of which to this day are the subgenres that push the genre forward most consistently and with as little derivation as possible. nobody is calling ryo derivative because he's playing piano as opposed to inventing his own new instrument, he's derivative because his melodies/harmonies/rhythms and whatnot are bland, unemotional and formulaic.
>>
>>128270561
>Derivative music is okay if it attains the heights of what it's trying to achieve
Fair point
>Scenery does just that
