Black Sabbath - N.I.B https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFzDKTNLr2k

This general is dedicated to the discussion of traditional heavy metal and its many sub-genres. If this is your first time here, please view the link below.
https://pastebin.com/FeVuNsmd (updated)

>Is [genre/band/album] fit for /trad/?
If you have to ask this, it probably isn’t and you should take what you want to talk about somewhere else.
>When will charts be added to the OP?
Once we finish all of the main 1980s charts and move onto the '90s.

USEFUL LINKS
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1luaLZfavSeXui9RkO1PZ3U5gAE1XHfkH?usp=drive_link - Giant archive of old metal & rock magazines.
https://www.metal-archives.com/ - Search for your favorite bands and look under the “similar artists” tab.
https://en.metal-tracker.com/ - Bittorrent tracker from Russia, in order to use it you need to have a registered account.
https://rateyourmusic.com/ - Search for albums, charts and lists here. (Some early trad albums have metal as a secondary rather than primary; so when looking for music from the early-mid ‘70s make sure you include heavy metal as a secondary in your filter as well.)

It's okay. My main problem with this record is the amount of padding per song, there are a lot of songs here that re-use the same passages over and over for no real reason other than to just extend songs. The sound here dances between Scorpions-ish heavy rock and blazing speed metal like what Accept were doing at this time.

They're an okay rock band but it's surprising to hear someone call them they're favorite. This is the only song from them I really like:

Yes and for the same reason Pyromania didn't make 1983's chart. Both records are far more on the hard rock/AOR side than actually metal.

DUDE THE VERSION OF SYMPTOM OF THE UNIVERSE WAS SO FUCKING GOOD
>>
>>128258063
it's an amazing recording, professionally done by a radio crew. at some point in 1975 or 1976 it was lined up for official release. then in a truly strange turn of events, everybody involved forgot about the tapes until some hero leaked the soundboard years down the line. (I mean literally they just forgot. it was rediscovered on a shelf and they had to bring someone in to identify the recording.)
>>
>>128258343
I can tell. This sounds like an official release, the inconsistencies with fidelity a typical live recording has just aren't here.
>(I mean literally they just forgot. it was rediscovered on a shelf and they had to bring someone in to identify the recording.)
Lmao. This would've become a legendary live album if it came out as planned.
>>
>>128257737
>2 votes for this one now. Is it really that good?
it's very unique for how relentless it is but it's more interesting than good imo. it reaches death/thrash levels of barrage despite the riffs being cleanly rooted in USPM
>>
>>128258519
>it reaches death/thrash levels of barrage despite the riffs being cleanly rooted in USPM
Now that sounds pretty cool desu (Have to listen to it eventually anyways, next week I'm going to start tearing through the 1-2 votes in the list to figure out what should fill the rest of the chart and what shouldn't.)

Solid NWOBHM record, there's some pretty fast material for 1981 here like Burning Alive and the title cut. The sound here is a mesh between Diamond Head & Def Leppard's first album.

>1. Judas Priest - Painkiller
Fully agreed, and one of the few times where having the best track first really paid off for a band.
>2. Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast
Prefer Hallowed be Thy Name but a solid enough choice.
>3. Dio - Gypsy
Good choice.
>4. Mercyful Fate - Evil
Satan's Fall wins me over for how dynamic and well-written it is but I wouldn't argue with this desu
>7. Witchfinder General - Witchfinder General
I've never been the biggest fan of this album but the title track is probably my favorite off it.
>9. Saxon - Princess of the Night
A contender for their best song, that riffing is proto-USPM.
>11. Trouble - Assassin
I think every song off of that album is amazing but I'd say The Fall of Lucifer is the best among them. Genuinely one of the greatest metal songs of the '80s.
>16. D.R.I. - Worker Bee
Only one I flat out disagree with. IMO Beneath the Wheel and Abduction are the real hits off of Thrash Zone, Worker Bee (and the shorter songs in general) just kind of felt like filler.

Was surprised at how bouncy the riffing is (I'm used to the stoner metal that's a lot more drawn out and crunchy) but I enjoyed this a lot.

Power & Blood sucks. Annoying glam tune with an even more annoying "WHOAH OOH OH" chorus at the end that goes on for like over a minute. Aside from that total whiff, this is still consistent; quality material but you can feel the band resting on their laurels with the non-standouts. Said standouts are fantastic, though.
