Can i become famous by doing the daniel johnston method by travelling around and handing my album to as many people as possible. He looks like a chad in this photo too
>>

no, most people won't listen to your music even if you give it out for free. i doubt most of the lucky idiots who daniel even gave his tapes to listened to them, aside from a very few.
>>
>>128254932
yet he gave some tapes to the right people who made him known. I'm hoping that if I give enough I will find at least a few of the right people
>>
>>128254929
good to have one shameless guy like that in your band, but why the hell would you want it to be yourself.
>>

>he gave some tapes to the right people who made him known
well you're not wrong there. but a good handful of those people also knew daniel for being the eccentric mcdonald's weirdo, what's your gimmick, OP? keep in mind that music is also less popular than ever
>>
>>128254960
because im shameless and want to be known and Im similar to daniel johnston except i don't have bipolar
>>
>>128254971
ok, then it's the job for you.
It's not so bad the younger you are though. like school/college.

I don't know my gimmicks, people tell you if you have gimmicks. Daniel johnston is my idol, he was just a young guy just like me, mundane early life just like me but he got out there and he sort of won despite his bipolar. I don't need to be super famous, another daniel johnston like guy will never be as famous, but I could get fans my way

Anon, it literally took decades before anyone started giving a shit about Daniel Johnston, nobody outside of a small handful of people who got a hold of his tapes, either from a single McDonalds in Texas or secondhand had even heard of him until the early-mid 2000s when his work started getting uploaded to early video sharing sites like Google Video and early YouTube, and even then he was still considered an unknown curiosity that wasn't known about outside of a small group of internet nerds until the mid-late 2010s when normalfags finally discovered him just before his death.

he interacted with a bunch a famous guys you know like thurston moore, one of the guys from butthole surfers, moe tucker, most famously kurt cobain who wore a shirt of his drawing and maybe others i forgot, don't forget he was on mtv, he still got around. I'm shameless enough to shill for a long time
>>
>>128255102
Kurt didn't like being famous, I'm sure him wearing that shirt was him trying to bring himself back down to earth so to speak, it's also why he hired Albini to produce his last album

People don't have tape or even cd players anymore. What are you gonna do hand out cards with your bandcamp link? I suppose having a business card is ok.

he secretly wanted to be famous but regretted it

>What are you gonna do hand out cards with your bandcamp link?
Not OP but he could hand out QR codes that link to his bandcamp
>>
>>128255187
what i will hand out
>cd
>cd player
>a comic
>>
>>128255208
Honestly, handing out CD players with the CD inside actually sounds pretty novel and based and I'd probably listen to your shit at that point. I'm sure mass shipment cheapo Chinese CD players are cheap enough to pull this off
>>
>>128255208
look bro whatever it is you hand out for free at least 75% of it is going to end up in the trash so why don't you make a business card with a QR code and some links so they can look at it on the phone or at home on the computer. You could also busk or play gigs and sell CDs and comics but don't give those away unless they are digital downloads.
>>
maybe instead of a card you could give away a very small mini comic also with the QR code and links to music but honestly do not spend very much producing this, some xerox and staples b&w. When daniel Johnston was around a blank cassette was probably 50 cents or less and everyone had a player already.
>>
>>128255233
>>128255239
>novelty
or
>business card
I'm debating whether buying multiple cd players would be worth it.
>>128255288
I'll probably do this and write the link in my comics but having both the comics and cds would be cool. I was initially just thinking to go to some other country, go find hostels, live shows or whatever strike up conversations with people and say "would you like a comic and cd??"
>>
>>128255360
and I've been wondering what the best country is for this kind of stuff. Perth australia sucks...
>>
>>128255368
I don't think anywhere is going to be a particularly good place for this kind of thing to be honest. You'd probably have similar reception in the States trying to hand out CDs and Comic strips downtown
>>
I think by looking at this board you get an unrealistic view of how much of the population has physical media players. I can play CD tape or vinyl but Joe Blow and Jane Doe on the street cannot.
