Very good songs, but sadly they are most likely ghostwritten by a team of 8 producers.
They make interesting music
>>128263788WRONG! Julian wrote most of the songs for the first three albums
>>128264001>It says in the album liner notes "All songs written by Julian Casablancas" so it must be true!
They have a secret occult flash message in the Last Nite video
I grew up on the garage rock revival and love The Libertines, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The White Stripes, The Vines, The Raveonettes, Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, Wolfmother, Willowz, and others, but I've never really liked The Strokes because they always sounded like a mediocre bar band to me. However, they were socially very important because they showed people (both bands and media) that stripped down garage rock could be fresh, exciting, stylish, and commercially viable. If you look at 90s indie rock and especially the underground 90s garage punk scene, it was very anti-commercial and anti-fashion. There were a lot of great bands like the Gories, New Bomb Turks, Oblivians, etc., but they weren't even going for mainstream success. The Strokes had an image, if only because they were rich hipsters who honestly seem kind of unbearable. My favorite band in that scene is The Libertines, and while I love The Libertines and am utterly bored by The Strokes, The Libertines wouldn't exist without The Strokes because they showed them there was a place for garage rock. The Strokes' role perfectly mirrors the way Suede kicked off Britpop - before Suede British indie bands (madchester/baggy, shoegaze, jangle/twee pop, grebo, etc.) was anti-commercial and anti-fashion, and bands like Suede, Blur, and Oasis showed people British indie could be audacious and stylish. The difference, of course, is that Suede were an incredible band, while The Strokes were utterly mediocre.
