honestly this, people who try to even out their ratings curve are intentionally listening to stuff they're not going to like

listening to shit you know is going to be shit. I knew the limp bizkit albums were going to be bad, and lo and behold they were bad
>>
>>128262750
music is made by those who hear it.

Rating 38000 + albums 5.0 means either they really get music, or they're pretending to like music they don't.

But really who is better off for reading a review of less than 5.0 on an album? nobody cares what you hate, I certainly don't, I just care what music has inspired you recently.

This is why critics are utterly useless. You have ears, a heart and a brain, use them.

I agree, you should kill yourself for using RYM.

i thought you got banned or your ratings effecting the over all score got revoked for having meme ratings
>>

If this were true, half of the site would be banned. All the tranny and zoomer reviews are meme shart with no meaning.
>>
>>128262750
My ratings curve looks like that because I only listen to 5/5s
>>
>>128265421
you don't get banned but you get deweighted, meaning your ratings don't affect the overall score of the release
>>
>>128262882
Why shouldn't I do that ?, I just created a rym account...

I remember it being a part of the rules, that if your rating distribution wasn't at all close to a normal distribution with a mean somewhere in the middle, then it was grounds for having your account suspended.

The kind of ""people "" that drive tpab to the top https://rateyourmusic.com/~mmepsychosis https://rateyourmusic.com/~RIAYBD00H5 https://rateyourmusic.com/~Adam_M009 idiots always win on sites like these, for being the majority, these sites are useless, to "decide" which ones are the best albums. Should be a requirement, to be at least 25, and have rated at least 500, before your votes started to amount to anything.
>>
>>128263221
>>128263317
>>128267391
How tf do you have more 3.5s and 4s than 3s. The vast majority of stuff I listen to ends up being only "okay".
>>
>>128267122
>you either like it or not pretending theres anything more to it than that is just arbitrary
one of the most retarded things I've ever read
affinity is a sliding scale, there's a difference between "I like this" and "I love this"
>>
>>128268276
A lot of stuff I listen to ends up being solid or having one or two tracks I revisit with the rest of the album being just okay or forgettable.
>>
I think I broke the recommendation thingy ?, it said I need to try genres I dislike (rap) so I just kept 0.5 everything that came my way... now it doesn't work anymore, is that normal ?
>>
>>128262882
>>128265421
>>128267082
>>128267465
If you're seeking out music on your own and judging it by yourself, your ratings should come out as a normal distribution. If you follow any outside opinions, including what to listen to, it will deviate from a normal distribution. Simple as
>>
i only rate music i own
i only own music i like
>>
>>128262882
retard does not understand the concept of relativity
>>
>>128268794
You're right. For example, if you mostly check out albums on RYM that are bolded, then it's likely your rating distribution with have a higher mean, than if you were to check out albums randomly. There are commonalities in what people find good, so even though you may disagree on a lot of albums with the consensus, that simple reality should still be reflected in a skewed distribution. But I don't think they'd ban you for having a skewed rating distribution. They might ban you if you e.g. rate everything 5/5 or 0.5/5.
>>
>>128262750
This is how people rate pretty much everything online.
>if everything went 100% smoothly
5 stars
>if there was even the most slightly disappointment or inconvenience
1 star

I've learned a lot of people live by extremes. This is also how people argue online on Reddit and even 4chan. Everything is either black or white, there is no middle ground. Oh you like X, well you must hate Y then! It's the same principal.

No Kendrick album is higher than a 3.5
>>
>>128268818
>I like this album but less than other stuff I like, 2 stars
that biases the ratings as well
>>
>>128271380
Dude, why do you even rate any kendrick crap a 3 ? especially when everyone is already glazing the hell out of his crap ?, if everyone did their job, and rated it a 0.5, it would leave 1st place in no time. here is how I rate 'em : https://rateyourmusic.com/~Andras I hope rap dies out soon, tired of seeing half of the ""greatest albums of all time"" being rap...
>>
>>128271712
RYM will never let #1 not be an affirmative action album again. I'm sure there's been special weights and/or bots keeping it that way for years.
