What was the reaction to this at the time? I've never cringed harder
>>128264579I love Bowie. I've never seen this movie but this looks kinda stupid and like he was making a caricature out of himself. Bowie was at his best playing mysterious outcast characters btw, the Goblin King seems to capitulise too much on his rockstar image than what he was actuallt like as an actor and artist.I might be wrong though cause I have never seen the full movie aside from some bits and pieces ages ago
>>128264579>Damn, look at that giant bulge!
>>128264579Young girls first fap.
HEY!I KNOW!LET’S TAKE OFF OUR HEADS!
>>128264579He had basically lost his artistic credibility with people who used to take his music seriously, especially with old fans since it looked like the man who made low, heroes, ziggy, scary monsters, etc.. was dead. With that context he continued to embarrass himself with Never Let Me Down, Glass Spider Tour, Tin Machine, etc...>>128264693The movie is made for kids so yeah you're probably not going to like it, and it's very of its time. Those who grew up with the movie seem to enjoy it though
>>128265446>>128265496>. Those who grew up with the movie seem to enjoy it thoughSee I was right.
>>128265496>He had basically lost his artistic credibilityAbsolute Beginners was a great single, and the one right before Labyrinth.
>>128264579>>128264693it was a vehicle for him to show his moose knuckle and attempt to hit on jennifer connely (bowie was infamously a nonce)
>>128265594>nonceHe was with prime Susan Sarandon around this time.
>>128264579Aint he like an Elf King or somethinghair is weird but it sorta fits like for what he is trying to portray.
>>128265645Goblin King
>>128264579Zoom
>>128265585True but his music was still rapidly declining in terms of general output since his most recent album at that point was Tonight, and it was his worst since his obscure first album. The AB movie was also kinda crap, then he follows it all up with a weird kiddy puppet movie
>>128265446>>128265574My friends mom's first crush was David Bowie after seeing labrynth and she got pretty shy when I asked her about it. I'm 90% sure she flicked it to jareth
>>128265425PANTS MAGIC PANTSJUNK MAGIC JUNK
>>128265782>>128265496Tin Machine was his attempt to walk away from that.. to just have fun with a band and not do pop, whatever the results. I don't think he deserves shit for it.
>>128265794I would have more respect for Tin Machine if Bowie and his bandmates weren't acting like arrogant douches in the media throughout that period
>>128265860The only thing that bums me out is that his voice was still strong in the 80s and up to at least early 90s. He still sounds great on Jump They Say, for example. But the songs aren't always up to snuff. By the end of the 90s, he couldn't croon or belt out like he could once. But then the songs got a little better.
>>128264579You ask this as if you're not aware of the incredibly more insane shit that came out during the 80s
>>128265794>>128265860i would have more respect for tin machine if the music wasn't absolute 80s buttrock garbage. also bowie was still an attention whore and the "laying low" thing never worked. it at least introduces reeves to bowie i guess
>>128264579Mother picked this out for us from the video store and everyone had a good time watching it

>>128264579It's a nice movie.
Ever see Jazzin' with Blue Jean? I never even suspected Bowie had a sense of humor before watching that one.
