It's been cool in recent decades to dismiss the importance of a good singer, but literally what makes this good and separates it from run of the mill punk/hard rock is how good of a singer Mike Ness is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8cFJZxB62I&t=1s

>>128284153I dont know how you can say this when there are numerous singing competition television shows and all mainstream pop music is vocal music but sure bro, singers are so under valued in today's society!!!! But to answer your question the most important things are having a strong voice and a distinct singing style or voice that makes out stand out from the typical vocal wankery
>>128284626yeah, that's true. pop music is built around the singer.but in band music, especially hard core, it seems the singer is discounted to some degree because it smacks of hero worship.but i think the singer might be more important in fast guitar rock than any other genre. i mean if the prerequisite of a drummer who can keep good time is met, plus bass and guitar who can stay synced with drums, the only real avenue to differentiate your band from the competition is a good distinctive vocalist. see social distortion and replacements
