Only troons dislike this album.

I hate faggots like that. I know this is bait but its seriously annoying as fuck. Who gives a fuck if someone talks shit about women. Women talk shit all the fucking time. Stop the double standard. Most women are shit

>make 1 half decent album
>normies act like they're a legendary rock band
how did they do it /mu/?
>>
My Michelle is the best song on the album
>>
>>128286779
With such a solid album the question should be what's the weakest song. I'd say Think About You
>>
>>128286893
I’ve honestly never been too partial to Paradise City
>>
>>128286963
Maybe you heard it 1000 too many times
>>
>>128286893
I always thought Out to Get Me was comparatively weak
>>
>>128286701
yeah, but Axl was also openly simpish too to a degree that was unusual at the time. see sweet child, patience etc

and he was proudly white and not down with the inherent anti-white of the post-civil rights establishment a full 20 years before MAGA. see one in a million.
>>
In the latest Guitar World magazine that just came out, Dave Navarro says in hindsight he was a better cut out for GnR than the Chili Peppers and should have taken that gig when it was offered to him first instead.
>>
>>128286725
Clearly
>>
>>128287435
Is Axl a magatard now? Should be easy to find out. If he is you’ve a point otherwise One In A Million is an artwork that does not necessarily reflect the personal views of the author
>>
>>128286779
Yeah it is
>>
>>128286774
If anything, this album's runaway popularity is an indictment on just how lame mainstream rock had gotten by the end of the '80s. Same goes for Faith No More scoring a hit with "Epic". I love that song, but why the fuck was that ever a hit?
>>
>>128287750
no, he got beat up pretty bad for that song (fyi, the 'no negative thoughts about minorities' regime was much more strict in the late 80's than it was in the so-called woke era (2010's), despite what zoomers think), and now usually endorses dem's.
but the 'work of art, not really his thoughts' rationale is total BS, especially with someone from the blunt-talk 100% redneck background of Axl. i.e., it was his views.
>>
>>128287810
The video on mtv made that Epic song a hit
>>
>>128287869
It either was or wasn’t. If it was it isn’t now by all accounts so it shows he had a phase in his younger days of thinking like that, and if it wasn’t it doesn’t matter for political arguments and he’d actually be taking the piss with the song
>>
btw it’s not uncommon or unusual to write from the perspective of an other person real or imagined
>>
>>128288071
I'd say it's unusual for a rock star to not write in sincere 1st person, as the main role both commercial and artistic of rock stars is being heroes for teenagers.

sure there might be genres of rock, like say art rock with Bowie where you don't know for sure if he's singing in a character he identifies with or not, or literate rock like Randy Newman where you know he's singing in a character he doesn''t identify with (sail away)

but redneck Axl obviously didn't come from those backgrounds and isn't doing some art-fag thing where he's playing a role to make an ironic point. he's a blunt redneck and sincerely says what's on his mind, no game-playing.

and I mean, if we're just going to pretend Axl didn't mean anything he sang, the whole premise of the thread falls apart, because you could just say Axl and gunners were just parodying cock rock when they sang those songs.
>>
>>128288353
It’s really not unusual at all, you’ve given examples and if Axl had (hypothetically) claimed it was from a character perspective that would be that. Like there’s fucking songs out there about digging up corpses and raping them, and like I

>former hitler youth Axl Rose
lol
>>
>>128286725
Yeah he is. Op dresses like a woman then runs his mouth and says, "you wouldn't hit a woman, would you?! I'll call congress!!"
>>
>>128286774
same as van halen that essentially made shitty pop rock with a poorly noodling guitarist that got the credit for inventing tapping despite countless bands doing it previously, including Judas Priest.
The entirety of the mainstream rock/hard rock/metal pantheon of the 80's is fraudulent derivative pop garbage

>>128288406
again, the premise of the thread was taking Axl and Gunner's songs at face value and that they more or less were singing in sincere 1st person when they sang their cock rock songs,

and since there is no overt 'wink, wink, this is parody' that I can detect in the 'One in A Million' song, then there is no reason to only analyze that from a parody perspective and not any other of their songs.

All of their shit up to The Spaghetti Incident was decent, and Appetite is like an 8/10 album with balls in an era where most bands were trying their hardest to be gay af and remove any testosterone from rock music.
You could also argue that Use Your Illusion 1 / 2 without the filler is another 8/10 album and Estranged is their best song.

>>128286779
It's So Easy mogs.
>>
>>128286701
Overrated. They peaked on their debut album lmfao. GNR Lies is underrated. Use Your Illusion 1&2 are good, Spaghetti Incident is covers, and we all know Chinese Democracy is just Axl borrowing off of Nine Inch Nails sound.

This album doesn't have a banger as Midlife Crisis on it to be honest.

>>128288718
Faith No More are a good band.

>>128288673
but Chinese Democracy era has Buckethead playing Big Sur Moon to confused GNR fans so it gets extra credit

Used to like GNR, saw them live in 2023. But now cannot really stand them anymore because I heard the same fucking songs over like hundreds of times on radio.

>Some publications, such as Ultimate Classic Rock and Spin, have identified the song as one of the band's worst. The latter designating it as the most overrated in their catalogue, writing "'Paradise City' runs out of ideas halfway through its triumphant first refrain and yet still lasts for six more minutes."

Nah, AFD is nothing short of strong moments, then there are moments that are peak rock perfection
>>
>>128289440
It was wild that a song with a double time thrash section was on top 40 radio
>>
Slash is black/jewish
GnR are literally more woke than Nirvana
>>
>>128289714
Axl was so racist he only allowed half a black and half a jew in his band
>>
>>128289440
the jam at the end is the best part.
>>
>>128289691
It's genius how they snuck that in the conclusion, gradual and casual
The build is simple, pretty riff, boom stomp arena rock but by the end of it... if you never heard thrash you were initiated into thrash in the throes of the last moments. >>128289871

A perfect example of subversion, stadium pop to headbanging rocking all around, the song itself is a building. How could one not lose their shit to this song, fuggin a idk.

>t. has never listened to Possessed, Celtic Frost, or Slayer
>>
>>128293241
of those 3 only Slayer is mainstream, and I think they are way overrated, and I was mostly talking about Van Halen, Iron Maiden, post Uli Scorpions, etc...
But generally all the "popular" bands are overrated as fuck because they are more brand than music, best examples being Metallica and Iron Maiden, haven't released good music in like 20 years, but are probably the most popular metal bands because of their branding and the tribal identity built around them.
>>
>>128295939
they all problematic as shit, iron maiden at least didn't write texts degrading women
