I've seen some zoomers who like rock from the 60s and 70s, but I've never seen anyone under 30 who likes old soul/R&B. (the only exception is MJ's "Off the Wall")
Despite reevaluations by media like Rolling Stone,
why is this genre so dead?
>>
singles genre not album based

>None of the albums in OPs picrel are good just singles
Anon, I'm a racist too but jfc
>>128294444
Checked but also every one of those albums gets slobbed off constantly. What are you talking about

that's cool then

I got heavily into soul when I was 20 but that's twenty years ago. People are fucking retards, 60s and 70s soul is incredible but normies rather listen to Usher (then) and Lil Crack Shanty

Usher, R Kelly, Kelis etc don't get even close to the old legends from the 50s, 60s, and 70s.

Am I the only one who thinks live soul is better.
>Donny Hathaway - Live
>Sam Cooke - At Harlem Square
>James Brown - Live At the Apollo
Are pretty much all their best albums.

>>

if someone is up for it they should make a chart of the best soul music and spread it around

I owned a bunch of these albums in my teens but that was in the 90's. This music is 50 years old now what do you expect? In 1995 when I was listening to 70s funk 50 year old music was from 1945.

There is still a small scene for that and the vinyl is worth a fortune. Some of the best shit. https://youtu.be/xwvpeYiQwss

Most of the '60s rock music was white kids trying to sound like black Soul/R&B guys.

Soul artists wanted to be like Frank Sinatra or Nat King Cole, smooth urban entertainers, not some rowdy R&B singers.
That's why Soul artists were trying hard to sound softer than what they really were on records, straight opposite to what rock musicians were doing.
In live situations, artists couldn't be contained, and their natural energy could be felt.

>Soul artists wanted to be like Frank Sinatra
More like the companies wanted them to be like Frank Sinatra.
