How do you feel about the ‘supergroup’ concept?
>>
it's not fair to the rest of us normal groups
>>
No idea what it means, since it just means dudes in relatively famous bands playing together.
>>
Queens of the Stone Age on the SFTD era was basically a grunge/stoner rock fusion supergroup, and it was great.

In many regards, it has always been since, with people from A Perfect Circle, Mars Volta and others

Great supergroups:
Weather Report, Cream, Led Zeppelin, Crooked Vultures, CSNY

Zeppelin and cream arent supergroups lmao

This wasn't bad.

>The Dream Theater guy, the guy who got kicked out of Poison for banging the drummer's wife and the Scientologist who played bass on To Be With You
Absolutely kino lineup.
>>

Asia were kino if you're a connoisseur of fine 80's cheese.
>>
>>128307942
then they got rid of those members and showed how boring Josh is as primary songwriter.
>>
They’re a psyop
>>
>>128307823
Usually end up underwhemling because they save the best riffs for their main projects.
>>
>>128307823
its never worked, ever
>>
I like the Winery Dogs
>>
>>128307942
dave grohl should be state mandated to sit behind a drum kit whenever performing or recording
>>
>>128307942
they might be great musicians, but no one from these mentioned groups contributes to any supergroup being "super" because they're unknown to 99% of the population:

Queens of the Stone Age
Dream Theatre
Perfect Circle
Mars Volta
>>
>>128307823
A lot of the time they're really disappointing. I should love Better Lovers and L.S. Dunes because I like all the various bands the members were in but both are kinda mid.
>>
>>128309037
Dave Grohl was in QOTSA
Hell you can argue Flea and Frusciante were in The Mars Volta
>>

>Zeppelin and cream arent supergroups lmao
Cream was literally the band for which they coined the term "supergroup"
>>
>>128307823
The issue with supergroups is that the draw is individual egos but the point of a group is to work together. I first learned not to trust the supergroup idea when I heard Oysterhead and realized that Trey and Les don't mix even though I like Primus and Phish separately.
>>
>>128308090
Cream is a supergroup. Zeppelin is not.
>>
>>128307823
The idea is that you take the best musicians from the best of their genre and they come together and make triple s tier music. The actual result is some of the most mid music you'll ever listen to. Maybe it is their lack of hunger? p

You know, that may be it. That lack of motivation. Because my knee jerk is that the artists involved in supergroups are saving their A-game for their own groups and are just farting out a paycheck until they do a tour full of covers. But then I remember Velvet Revolver who was meant to be permanent and they were fucking terrible. But there are people who believed the propaganda that Slash is special and would pay to see them based on being tricked by top hat man.

"The Traveling Wilburys" were the best supergroup to date.
