ITT artists whose "best" album is actually their worst
>>128312140>it's a guy songskiiiiip
>>128312140fugazi has a mediocre discography. i assume they were more of a live phenomenon. thats why people always post pictures of the basketball hoop and their live videos get millions of views. but no one cares about their LPs.
>>128312140But 2 drummers! In On The Killtaker is the best
>>128312201they have good songs sprinkled throughout but i don't think they have a single album where every song is good.
Even the band admits it.
>>128312140Not bolt thrower's absolute worst, but still pales in comparison to Realm of Chaos and the IVth Crusade. It simply lacks the sovl of their earlier works
>>128312174you're really gonna diss my boi guy like that
>>128312375i like his voice as a counterpoint to ian on ian's songs but guy lead songs are always kind of meandering and irritating to me.
>>128312174Literal dogshit taste holy fuck
>>128312230correct, and i'd argue op's example is actually their only album with more hits than misses
>>128312201You’re fucking dumb they have the most solid discography of the 90’s with the only shaky part being End Hits
>>128312140before they reunited, that is
>>128312469>with the only shaky part being End Hitsbreak is still a top 5 fugazi song though
>>128312507Yes it is it’s just the latter part of the album that is a bit more mediocre. The rest of their discography is just one big hit that fucks crazy hard.
>>128312140End hits and steady diet are the weakest fugazi albums but the argument is overrated (at least on RYM)
>>128312391I think the main difference is that guy never goes for the long, sustained notes that Ian can do; Ian can really wail but guy's screams are never longer than a few seconds (I haven't heard everything yet tho)his voice was definitely right for some of their songshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiEeKOLzWNEhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byULAAfeLx8https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOeyuFQpY8o
>>128312174In fact Ian has a shitty unbearable voice. He sounds like rhcp singer
This album is basically one big blueball session. Like, they'll have a cool melody or groove or whatever but almost never develop it into something that's actually interesting throughout. There are good qualities - the mix is great, the singles are good, the performances are energetic - but definitely my least favorite songwriting of their discography.
>> 128313559>In factof course
>>128314316Who the fuck thinks this is their best album?
>>128312469This guy gets it! End Hits isn’t even bad, it just has crummy production which does not properly serve the songs. When they were playing those songs live in 1997, though, they were tight as fuck.
>>128315556Nu metal tards
>>128315556You'd be surprised.
>>128316518who tf considers this their best album
>>128316126Everything by Deftones is "nu metal"
>>128316531Idk but I see a lot of people ranking it higher than The Rising Tide and I think that’s bullshit
>>128316578No. They were already getting away from it on their second one and were all but completely removed from it by their fourth.
>>128316161I mean, it's a good album but isn't White Pony considered their best?
>>128316126nah we prefer Adrenaline because it has better riffs. the closest fur gets to anything like that is Headup and even that isnt that great
>>128316837Depends, they have a lot of contenders. There's an entire contingent that would call Diamond Eyes or Koi No Yokan their best.>>128316849Based Adrenalinechad.
>>128316932By and large, I think most would say White Pony, right? I've just never heard anyone say Around the Fur. It's good. I like it but it's not really mind-blowing or anything.
>>128317009In the same way most would say the best Radiohead album is OK Computer, but there's voices for Kid A and In Rainbows too. The Bends, even. Same with Deftones, they have multiple fan favorites and Around the Fur is one of them, though I suspect it's hard carried by the singles.>I've just never heard anyone say Around the Fur.Funnily enough Chino thinks it's their best.
>>128317070You learn something new every day. Damn.
>>128315556I do.ATF>White pony>Adrenaline>Saturday night wrist>Self titled
anything billie eilish released after her first album
Early In Flames is better than the breakthrough albums.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clOjIMNCJmc
>>128312174bait used to be believable
>>128312548STEADY DIET OF NOTHING fucking clears… you have no idea how big of a deal that album was coming on the heels of REPEATER… it fucking shipped Silver — 100 000 units… this from the label that put out the “Faith/Void” split… fucking insane, half the tracks were deathless set list staples for the entirety of the 90s…you have no scholarship and you’re some SSRI’d out TikTok brained Zoomer retard. Never cook again.
>>128315556me
>>128312140>13 Songs8/10>Repeater9/10>Steady Diet of Nothing6/10>In on the Kill Taker8/10>Red Medicine9/10>End Hits6/10>The Argument9/10
>>128312201Peopel cared abotu their LP's. Repeater, Steady Diet, In on the Kill Taker all would sell 100-300k copies withotu any markting, singles, video clips.Major labels were all crazy trying to signed them. With a major label, and them becoming more comercial, they could've easily had a Diamond album like Green Day with Dookie
I win this thread
>>128316696Copium. Deftones will always be considered a shitty nu metal band by anyone with taste.
>>128319602the next one is worse
>>128312140not counting the soundtracks and the post '70s albums
>>128320119But its not considered the best by anyone
>>128319463Gotta say I agree for the most part with these ratings, all except IOTKT being a 9/10>Instrument 7/10>>128312507Break is an incredible song 1 side 1 rivaled by Do You Like Me. Tho on EH the back2back of No Surprise and 5Corps. that sort of contrast does it for me
>>128312201Saw them live 2 nights in a row, awesome got their newest album at the time End Hits. It's ok never did buy another one but I had the VHS of the movie doc. I saw the Evens also that show was good. >>128312502Saw them live too before that album. Good but the guitar players are both really annoying at this point especially after Portlandia. Idk if people like picrel but I think it's worse than the infamous s/t slut album and maybe even the later joke album that was panned.
>>128320107If by anyone with taste you mean yourself then yeah. And no one cares what you think anyway so it's irrelevant.
>>128320119It's bad, but I consider it marginally more interesting actually.
Deafheaven. Sunbather is mediocre. They started being good with a new Bermuda
Everyone in America writes Arctic Monkeys off as Tumblr girl music but they all seem to think Humbug is their one “actually good” album. I think it’s a total boring slog. Suck it and See is way better. Not to mention their first two album which are basically a different band altogether. PS: my favorite album of theirs is Tranquility Base.
>>128312201Trvke. Unvvound mogs.
>>128321870unwound fucking sucks
>>128321870>>128322368speaking of unwound, they're perfect for this thread
>>128320107Not by anyone with ears though. Try listening to damn near anything they made in the 21st century that wasn't label mandated. They've made maybe a half-dozen songs adjacent to that style in the past 25 years.
>>128323865Future of What is their worst album. Just generic punk songs and shit that sounds like Codeine but worse.
>>128323865>>128323969all of their albums are bad
>>128323989A retarded gay nigga typed this. 'fraid so.
>>128323953Deftones will always suck, zoomer.
>>128324592Not the argument being made. You can dislike them all you want, but they were pretty much over nu metal by 2000. That's just the truth.
>>128312140Wtf dos that even mean
>>128319436It's much better than everything that came after
>>128324912Not hard when everything you make sucks
>>128324592I heard this anon was brutally raped one sizzling summer night by several black gentlemen after a Deftones concert. Probably why he's so angry at the mention of their name.
>>128325016Their first 4 albums were great
That was easy
>>128327296true. daydream is their worst album of the 80s.
>>128327296Goo's their worst album though.>>128327309Their worst 80s album would still land in the top half of the discography.
>>128312201Dumb and wrong opinion. One of the most consistent and impressive 90s bands. Steady Diet is the only step back in their discography, and it's still decent. And even then, their brand of indie punk makes the vast majority of indie and punk bands of the past 25 years look pale and weak, as well as the even vaster majority of mainstream bands.
>>128312140nirvana - nevermind
>>128327580Steady Diet is NOT a step back at all, top 3 fugazi bro
>>128326064Haha, alright.
