My mother played guitar and sang in a garage punk band in the late 90s/early 00s. She taught me all she knew about playing guitar. My father doesn't have a musical bone in his body.

I am very glad I picked up a Nintendo and learned absolutely nothing instead. The idea of reading or writing music from my parents would've made me really snotty -- everyone I met who grew up with music, turned out to be especially snotty and loved to gatekeep. If anything the contrary taught me that this isn't a special skill and hard work beats talent literally all the time.
