I'm currently listening through Kempff's mono set from the 50s. It's good stuff, but the Pathétique was kinda underpowered. His performance style is pretty restrained.

Mono or stereo?

I find early Schiff pretty boring, but his live ECM Goldbergs were great. His ECM Beethoven set is also live, right? I tend to prefer live performances over studio.

Annie Fischer's set is interesting. It's quirky, perhaps because each sonata is a a studio assembly of bits and pieces of performance, but worth a listen.

I assume "eggwhites" is bad? I do like his later fortepiano Schubert, but I haven't heard his earlier Schubert recordings (because I expect they'll be boring).
