How are you supposed to practice 'modes'? Also, what are modes, really?
>>128332571In most contexts, mode is interchangeable with scale.
>>128332571Modes are just instructions/blueprints for which notes to select (out of the 12 available) to get a scale/key (not synonyms but they're kind of interchangeable in this context).Technically any "modal" scale will have notes that you already have in a relative major or minor, but it will be with a different tonal center, so it will have a different sound, so if you want to be proficient at writing, improvising, or even playing in it, you need to start practicing doing those things in scales of that mode.
>>128332571You only need to know modes if you do jazz
>>128332571You just gotta know which note they start on in the standard diatonic scale. And also how the pattern of each mode is different from your standard major/minor scale (only 1 note will be changed). And just know the general mood and vibe of the scale. From there, experiment and toy around a lot. You might have already used modes without realizing it.
>>128334357>he standard diatonic scaleYou mean C major?
if you wanna learn useful modes go straight to the melodic minor scale
>>128332571ionian is WWHWWWHeach mode is just left-shifteddorian WHWWWHW, phrygian HWWWHWW, etc.
>>128332571just learn the major scale aka ionian, and you know all the 7 modes of it. They all share the same notes. Just the root changes.
Blind leading the blond lol
I would explain it to you, but you posted this guy.
>>128332571Greek stuff bro, ancient things. Listen to this it’s dorian mode. It sounds different from most stuff https://youtu.be/uIPGhI7Gl_0Ok, and for comparison this is ionian modehttps://youtu.be/uIPGhI7Gl_0
>>128335183>WWHWWWHJust say "Jesus", dude
It takes study to understand it, very much music nerd stuff but it’s what you will learn if you’re doing theory and it’s good
>>128336562I’m retarded. This is ionianhttps://youtu.be/SccggMlZQtw
