Slayer is a bigger band than Megadeth. More records and merch sold, more fans, more cultural acknowledgement.

He's right, though.

Big 4 in the 80s was (popularitywise):
Metallica > Anthrax > Slayer > Megadeth
But now it is:
Metallica > Slayer > Megadeth >>>>>THE ABYSS>>>>> Anthrax
Qualitywise, in the 80s, it was:
Metallica > Slayer > Anthrax > Megadeth
But now it is:
Megadeth > Slayer > Anthrax >>>>>>THE ABYSS>>>>> Metallica

Kinda weird how times change.

Jame's voice is the most obnoxious singing voice I have ever heard. It's just uncannily perfect for pissing me off.

Not even thrash metal in the first place.
Anyway, I'd say right now they are more popular than Anthrax but less than Megadeth, and their CFH-onwards material is slightly below 80s Slayer in terms of quality. Solid band.

>>128340283
It's inconsistent; they had the highest highs and lowest lows of the big 4.

https://blabbermouth.net/news/dave-mustaine-says-he-is-no-longer-struggling-with-his-metallica-demons

Classic Rock: How did it feel to be No. 1 in Joel McIver's recent book, "The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists"?

Mustaine: It was especially sweet when I found out that Joel has written books on METALLICA. I looked at my copy of the book — I wasn't on the cover or the back. I figured I'd be somewhere like No. 69. So I thumbed through it; it's a really comprehensive, good book. I got to No. 50 and I thought, "Am I in here?" I'd been told that I was, but not which position. So I got No. 16 and I saw Hetfield. I thought, "Wow," because I respect James. I'm a better lead player than he is, but he's one of the three best rhythm players in the world.

Classic Rock: The other two being?

Mustaine: Malcolm Young [of AC/DC] and myself. Malcolm kept it basic but brought a whole new style of rhythm playing to the world. So I got to the Top 10… I still wasn't in there. Every page I turned, I became more excited. I get to No. 5 and it's Kirk [Hammett], and I thought, "Thank you, God." At that point it didn't matter [which position I was]. To be better than both of them [Hetfield and Hammett] meant so much — it's been one of the pet peeves of my career and I've never known how to deal with it. I didn't realize that it has had so much bearing upon my life. Then I got to No. 2 and it was John Petrucci [of DREAM THEATER] and I froze. I was No. 1. What made it better still is that the guy wrote: "This isn't about Dave as a person because he's been a cock" — [interjects with a bray of laughter] — "These four pages are about his guitar playing, which is the best. There are people who are better at one thing that Mustaine does, and others that are better than another, but no-one who's as good at everything." All I thought was… I win!

Very unique album, pretty much nothing else sounds like it due to the jazz fusion guys backing the band coupled with Dave's darkest songwriting ideas. Getting rid of this lineup so soon shot themselves in the foot, which is why SFSGSW sounds so shoddy in comparison, from the performances, to the production, and even the cover art looked cheap. It was obviously a last minute lineup with that had zero band chemistry and you can hear it. Still a mostly good album, and they regained their footing big time with RIP, obviously.
>>
>>128351331
If SFSGSW had the original lineup, it would be a more interesting album maybe, but not necessarily a better one, if that makes any sense. At the end of the day, I think most of the material is pretty damn good, barring Mary Jane (which is literally just In My Darkest Hour but worse). Jeff Young isn't a bad guitar player (I like his solo on Hook In Mouth) but he isn't shit compared to Chris Poland. Chuck Behler is a drummer I guess, his drumming feels very boneheaded and plodding compared to Gar.
It's also the last Megadeth album that feels really evil to me. RIP is a fantastic record, but it's missing the danger of the 80's records

Why does Mustaine hate Obama?

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/megadeth-dave-mustaine-barack-obama-dark-knight-rises-shooting-362863/

The rocker alleged that last month’s shooting in Aurora, Colo., was staged by President Barack Obama as part of a sweeping anti-gun agenda. Speaking at an Aug. 7 concert at Fort Canning in Singapore, Mustaine also connected other shootings to the president’s supposed plans.

“[Obama]’s trying to pass a gun ban, so he’s staging all of these murders, like the ‘Fast And Furious’ thing down at the border; [the massacre in] Aurora, Colorado, all the people that were killed there; and now the beautiful people at the Sikh temple,” Mustaine said at the concert, video of which surfaced Wednesday at Blabbermouth.net.

https://www.theguardian.com/music/2012/mar/30/dave-mustaine-megadeth-barack-obama

Yes, Mustaine is a birther. Metallica's former guitarist staked out his paranoid, far-right credentials in an interview with Canadian chat show host George Stroumboulopoulos. "I have a lot of questions about [President Obama], but certainly not where he was born," Mustaine said. "I know he was born somewhere else than America."

To be fair Obama did turn out to be a two faced cunt with all the drone strikes and pretending to drink the Flint water
>>
>>128360821
that's the thing he doesn't even mention the drone Strikes and instead criticizes Obama for the weirdest bullshit
>>
He doesn't post anymore, but he had a Truthsocial account at one point in 2022...

don't worry, he already got bullied on his own message board to the point that he deleted the general discussion section because they didn't like his politics

The second part is the rhetorical question you fucking dummy.

Peace sells = (((world leaders))) selling peace to the people to get votes
>>
>>128366278
I guess you don't know what a rhetorical question is, because it doesn't make it make sense

Is there anyone here that's old enough and remembers what those Megadeth message boards were like?
>>
>>128366347
It does though. “Who’s buying” is rhetorical implying nobody is buying as in nobody who isn’t at peace wants peace. The peace sells part is saying peace is popular, people like it, the rhetoric who’s buying is saying the ones who don’t have peace but could have it from their own agency don’t want it.
Look at Palestine and it applies, the Israelis don’t want peace they ain’t buying it. I’m just using that as an obvious well known example right now

Which megadeth songs do you think has the best singing?

This wasn't true until Pantera released Vulgar Display of Power. I think it made Slayer feel self conscious about their machismo or something. After Vulgar, Slayer had their punk album then stopped putting interesting melodies and solos in their subsequent work.
It's possible all this happened due to Hanneman's decline. But I strongly suspect Vulgar's influence

Hetfield's voice sucked even before he blew it out singing a shitty punk cover. Mustaine's fit the concept of Thrash way better, at least in terms of older non-Teutonic Thrash before growled vocals became more prominent.

I would say the early 90s was when he peaked vocally. Countdown to Extinction and Youthanasia.

Cute dog. Sucks about the throat cancer but Dava managed to eke his way to one of the good ends of the game.
Wish he'd been more loyal and merciful to Ellefson. Idk what went on behind the scenes but from the outsider point of view, Ellefson stuck with Dave through thick and thin and tolerated Dave at Dave's worst.
