I’ve been a Muse fan for years, and watching what’s happening with their current shows is honestly surreal. Back in the day, this band could sell out massive venues like Wembley, Stade de France or San Siro in minutes, sometimes multiple nights in a row. It was insane how big they were. Now fast forward to September 2025 in Osaka: the show was originally booked for a 55,000-seat stadium, but it had to be moved to a 6,300-capacity venue… and there are still tickets left. That’s not just a small dip, that’s a massive drop in demand. To me, this feels like a huge wake-up call about Muse’s decline in popularity. Of course, they still have a loyal fanbase (myself included), but the contrast between their peak and today is undeniable.I still love this band, but seeing a move from 55k to 6k in Osaka really puts things in perspective. Curious to hear what you all think.
>>128343682What do I think ? : https://www.albumoftheyear.org/artist/611-muse/ https://rateyourmusic.com/artist/muse Muse hasn't been the same for years now, in my opinion, they really peaked in Absolution, not OOS like most think, that album was as good as OK computer imho, but after a great debut, followed by 3 amazing albums, they released a final good one, but have been churning out nothing but mediocrity for the past 13 years, it's like they ran out of ideas/talent, and that partially explains why, the other reasons might include the usual ; change in demographics, shifting music landscape etc... I think Muse became a nostalgia act, only fans, rather than casuals, are showing up now.
The new single got me hopeful, Muse are really frustrating because they are clearly still capable of writing good songs but choose to write cheesy and preachy garbage instead
>>128343682I guess they're not big in Japan
>>128343682>haven’t had a good album in over a decade>why don’t people want to go see this washed up band of 50 year olds
>>128344236Other washed up 50 year olds in bands still sell out shows
>>128343682https://old.reddit.com/r/Muse/comments/1n9odtz/muses_shocking_decline_in_popularity/Fucking word for word.Jesus.
I have the impression that rock bands in general went through this too. If you look at any number of youtube views of a music video released nowadays, it's always much less than that of an old music video.
>>128343682they never went away and let people miss them.I think if they broke up 10 or 15 years ago they could be doing a big stadium reunion tour now, but anyone that wants to see them has seen them over the years with diminishing returns
>>128343682the rare band where every album is worse than the one before it
>>128344901Not true for their first
>>128344944wrong
>>128344241Guess muse are really washed up then
when you abandon your sound, hell, your genre and try to go metal that happens. Muse's sound was Showbiz/Origin of Symmetry. I want brit rock piano songs and some energetic guitar stuff with cool vocals but i want that early 2000's brit rock indie shit, not some wannabe Gojira shit.
>>128343682Their albums became worst and worst...they now have more bad albums than good ones. I haven't bothered listening to a new muse album since 2nd law
Drones was imo still okay but where they really started to fall off. I don't remember a thing from Simulation Theory so it must have been incredibly mid, and Will of the People was so dogshit I regretted buying the album.
>>128343682zoomers simply don't like/know about them, it has nothing to do with the quality of their recent stuff
>>128344516>If you look at any number of youtube views of a music video released nowadays, it's always much less than that of an old music video.have you heard about Spotify?
>>128347578Zoomers might know and like them if Will of the People wasn't hot garbage. Even if you go through their back catalog and like their best stuff, why would you go see a concert where you know they're gonna play their more recent, shittier songs?
>>128343682Bugs only care about either majorly popular of majorly obscure art in any form. They base their entire lifestyle around this because they don't have the free time to form a personality.Muse is neither popular nor obscure. They can still fill arenas in Europe/NA
>>128347590I don't use it. Why are you mentioning it? Do the numbers of bands in spotify stay as high as they were in the 2000s?
>>128344516>>128348840Spotify is more popular than Youtube nowadays.
