Being a huge Zappa fan as a beginner guitarist is a little bothersome. I'll need to practice for years to be able to play the music I'm really passionate about. On the bright side, it can keep me motivated to keep practicing. Once I can play the segue from Echidna's Arf (Of You) to Don't You Ever Wash That Thing? On Roxy & Elsewhere I'll feel complete.

>>
>>128388184
I too have been musing about a full scale Jaguar. I don’t have an issue with short scales, obviously, but I think it would be a unique feeling guitar at 25.5”. Baritone is kind of over done these day, that MkGee guy pretty much cornered the market on those. If I was more ambitious I’d buy a blank Jag body and Jazzmaster neck and build a full scale, maybe I will at some point.

I had a 90s Korean casino, besides the cheap tuners and the thick finish it was easily on par with anything i've tried from US/Japan. Try to cop one of those if you can, look for a serial # that starts with R, those are the good ones.

Buy a used Fender. CVs aren’t bad, but if you take to and stick with it you will inevitably want something better. Get a used MIM Strat, $400-$600 for a very good guitar with a 6 screw trem, a great neck and hopefully we’ll set up. Look for serial numbers from 00s and early 2010s

I have a guitar set up specifically for Kyuss and QOTSA riffing. It’s a Sonic Mustang which sounds meek on paper but it has 12-54 Martin acoustic strings on it and with very minimal setup it holds C tuning for literal weeks of playing Kyuss riffs aggressively, I’m talking writhing a cent or two of perfect C tuning. My Sonic P bass is very similar, it has better tuning stability than most Femder basses I’ve played for any length of time, those little Indonesians knocked it out the park with these man.. it’s pictured here in the background. Sub $200 for a great little sludge plank that can hang with the big niggas

You do if you have a guitar at all. Not every one wants to bother carving a nut. And simply dropping one in doesn't work.

Play a song for your family, Anon, then kind of do your own thing noodling as they talk/argue/fight.
I barely made it back home just now. Went out to get a couple things then my car wouldn't start in the parking lot. Had to ask a boomer for a boost, and he helped me troubleshoot the problem to a loose wire on the starter. I had to crawl under the car and hold the bare wire onto the starter terminal while he turned the key to get it to fire up. Shit was hectic. Now, I got a whisky poured and bowl loaded, and am will strum one for you, Anon.

I just don't bother with nuts and acoustic saddles. Structural damage too (for acoustic), but never had that problem.
That's what I took it to the shop for. Nut change. It's a funky Fender AO with a 9.5 radius and odd string spacing compared to any of their other guitars (neither vintage or modern). I told him low action, but he decided to be lazy and shimmed it and raised the saddles. I can do this shit better. I've already re set it up without the shim.

Should have got a MIJ. I’ve played fenders of all stripes for 30 years and currently the Corona and Ensenada guitars are closer in build quality than they have ever been. That is to say the US side has slipped markedly and the MIM side has increased in quality and the prices reflect this. Meanwhile Fender Japan not only offers better quality control and craftsmanship, but now they’re offering better components like higher quality wood, identical pickup options to the US line, and hardware including trems on the offset models

Criticizing someone’s taste in guitars is a telltale sign of a poorfag, a hobbyist, or worse, a poorfag hobbyist. I own a dozen Fenders, if I wanted a $5,000 LP I could buy one tomorrow. $1,000-$2,000 Fenders can do anything a PRS or Gibson can do, Sheeit, a Chibson could with the right setup and upgrades in the right set of hands. It’s not the guitar you play, it’s how you play it. Brand loyalty and bickerfagging is for the birds fellas, it’s not a good look..

It's the practice gf that lets you try anything. If you got something top shelf, you wouldn't know what to do because you'd be worried about keeping her neat.
You never really know how good you have it until you "meet your idols" so to speak. With some time with a professional instrument, you're going to find out how beat or decent your squier was. You also find out how far you have to go as a musician. Look at Trogly. Even with a music store at his disposal, he's going to play like a 5th grader.
