what set him apart from the rest of the similar rap people?Don't even give a shit about the rest, but DMX really ment something.
Not music
>>128479367fuck you
>>128479343Rest in Peace George Floyd
iirc he was never really part of a scene, he just emerged as a rough diamond and was promoted quickly keeping his rawness intacthe also got a lot of white fans by appearing on nu-metal festivals where the darkness of his music was appreciated, most rappers were too goofy or flashy for that crowd
Most rappers are low test. X was very masculine.
>what set him apartHe was real.
>>128479417Not music
>>128479343Carried by his voice and energy. Most of his songs really aren't that great. He's basically a less flashy and more serious Lil' Jon.
>>128479343>Got no love for homo thugsBased
>>128479678better than most rappers who are carried by samples of songs from 20 years earlier
>>128479343Unironically, him and 50 Cent are to blame for the gentrification of rap
>>128479790not really, lol
>>128479846Method Man loved mingling with white people too.
>>128479891Method Man is an awesome rapper, and an even better actor. Cheese is one of the greatest douchebags in the history of television, and it was hilarious watching him get completely owned at least once a season on The Wire for hoeing a massive tool.
>>128479343He's one of the only rappers to follow Chuck D's exaggerated preacherman flow buy NOT exclusively use it for hoodtrash political takes. The delivery is fun and if you ever work on a job site with a black man who has that "preacherman" voice (as I call it) you'll understand just how fun that personality type is to be around when they aren't a race-baiting performative grifter at a rally. When that voice is used to joke around and have fun instead of performative race-baiting it can actually be endearing to be around.
>>128479343aggressive most of the time but he was also pretty early on pain rap with stuff like slippin'
>>128479343>DMX really ment somethingmust have really hurt to see him finish off his reputation by running around an airport parking lot posing as an FBI agent, then trying to carjack people, only to be dismissed and waved off by soccer moms who then drove off, leaving him standing there breathless and empty-handed, only to be easily picked up by local cops and imprisoned
>>128479476This is correct. Felt like he came from nowhere, and his music actually had an edge to it. I found out about him through numetal back then, and then he was in several movies that were semi-well known during that time in pop culture. Then he faded away and descended back into drug problems and baby mama issues.
>>128479417He is right. It isn't real music.
