Been playing guitar, am confused about scales, mainly the major scale & minor scale. I am confused about what chords are used with those scales, what type of chords for what scales?
>>128489422Any advice?

That's a very good question, since most online resources just tell you which notes to use but not how to actually apply them.I once found a site that did a decent job at explaining it, but all I remember is that for the lydian scale, IIsus-I is a nice progression. Compare "Flying in A Blue Dream" by Joe Satriani. As much as I hate using AI, you might try querying it and asking for sources, then reading the actual links. Treat it like a fancy search engine
>>128489658I don't really bother with the note names of chords, prefer going by finger positions to identify them.>>128489712I suppose. Prefer going with chords by finger positions over note names.
>>128490054Well, you should learn the names in the interest of easing communication with other musicians. Refusing to do so is akin to going to a foreign country and insisting that everyone speak your language.Plus, IIsus-I as an example communicates the idea in the most general way, being independent of the actual key you choose to play in and not dictating the voicing, leaving you free to make creative decisions while providing the direction you're looking for.
>>128489658Btw this doesn't really provide usable guidance IMO. It's literally just a list of the triads you can make from the notes of the scale, which are trivial to derive from the scale itself. Which of the seven chords in that list one may CHOOSE to use, and in which order, and maybe which substitutions to make, that's what people struggle with (or what I used to struggle with, at any rate).t. >>128489712
>>128490299I suppose. So triad chords are mainly used in minor scales?
>>128490316Triad = a chord made from 3 notes, regardless of the scale.
>>128490324Right, thanks for correcting me.
>>128489422Chords are for fags, play a monosynth instead
>>128490324I also have very limited understanding of theory unfortunately. I know the basics at most.
>>128489422you can ask Grok or another smart chatbot all of this, it does answer fairly accurately OP
>>128490363Well, you're lucky. You live in a time when learning about music theory is just a matter of firing off a search on Youtube and watching a few videos.
>>128490455so what chords are for major & minor?
