>>128494012Have you listened to their first album, Point #1? I think its really good, it has the slightest little bit of Tool influence, but I think they do their own thing really well. All the songs might be a little samey, but as a whole I think the album is worth a listen or two, you'll definitely find at least one or two songs you like. Its a lot more straightforward then their later albums, but I really appreciate the simplicity and punchiness.

Nu Metal in the early 00's wasn't really connected to any of the existing metal subgenres. The closest you had were the legacy thrash bands that followed the Pantera/Sepultura groove metal thing into the 90's, but that was still fairly distinct from nu metal which was stylistically more similar to hard rock/grunge. They've always been weird about genres, but their logic makes more sense when you see it in terms of connected scenes and styles vs "music with heavy guitars" which is why there's are older blues rock bands, darkwave synth side projects of black metal dudes, and bands like King Gizzard that happen to have one random metal album. Personally I think it's a lot more conspicuous that they leave out a lot of metalcore like Converge or progressive bands that are clearly more metal than anything else like Protest the Hero or BTBAM, and I'm still not sure where "grindcore" starts to count. But it is what it is.(also slipknot is cringe teenager shit weather it's metal or not)
