I played bass in my school’s jazz band for 5 years and while it was fun it was nowhere near as fun as when I played guitar in the jazz band during the final year of school. The guitar player had graduated and nobody wanted to play guitar so I volunteered, I had been playing guitar longer than I had been playing bass and had already learned most of our songs over the years on guitar on my own time so it was an easy role to jump over too. Playing rhythm guitar parts in a jazz band is some of the most fun I’ve had playing in music, lead parts are fun but I was more than happy to let the one of the sax or trumpet guys take the leads. I enjoy playing bass but whenever I’m playing bass in a band all I can think about is how much I’d rather be playing guitar. There’s a time and a place for lead guitar though, whereas bass will always have a place and rhythm guitar will have a place 90% of the time. Shitty bassists are a diamond dozen I this doggy dog world but having a legitimate bass player who understands what he’s doing (aka not just a failed guitar player) is truly valuable and hard to find.

I like playing 12 strings except I tune the first 4 strings in unison and removing the bottom 2 octave strings. Unisons sound too fucking good to limit to the first 2 strings only.

When the peavey gets here I'll be getting it adjusted and have BEAD on the strings. But would it be safe to tune up to C#? For your instruments you have for specific tunings how far up or down do you go with tuning? I would want to go between drop A and drop c# on the peavey. Would going up possibly break the tuning pegs?
