I have a Katana Mini X - I have some knobs for effects like delay, reverb, etc on there so my question is why would I want pedals assuming I'm not playing live?

you get a different amp without those effects
you need an effect your amp doesn’t have

some pedals offer greater control than a cheaper modeler (pic related). if you can get the tone you want out of your amp currently then I would say no. My bass amp has a single knob compressor but I just need it to squish the low end a little to fatten the tone and be able to switch between slapping and finger style without the output volume changing and it works for that. So I don’t need a dedicated pedal

There was a lot of that going around in the 70s. It was a perfect moment in time where enough advances in luthiery were made to make these great instruments (basically, wood with cream pickups). You can see so many players' photos from that period, playing all sorts of cool instruments. Turned out, on the albums it was 99% a Tele, LP or P-bass, maybe a Strat (see Tele). There hasn't been much advancement since.

>>
>>128505073
they all sound fine. zoomers and below got memed. all that matters is having a good guitar. amps basically sound the same. "muh distortion" oh yeah only been solved for like 40 years dude
>>
>>128505192
Yes it is total garbage, throw yours in the trash so I can do you a favor and take it to the dump for you.
I want one but I don’t need a full 120. I just gotta decide on what smaller one cuz there are so many models.
>>
>>
>>128503262
>What does 6/8 mean? How does is differ from common time?
https://voca.ro/12imcs2SwXCA
>>
>>128505192
speakers don’t really make that big of a difference if you’re comparing all same sizes. from all the freq response charts I’ve seen there’s about a 4db max difference in the 100-300hz valley. 1db or less variation where all the action is. it can make a subtle difference but prob one of the least worthwhile upgrades to an amp/cab
>>
>>128504796
Solid States seem to lack lowend or what marketing consoomer refer to as "warmth" and they sound much more as if they were coming out of phone speakers compared to tubes, on its own I think the difference is valid but in a mix I highly doubt this shit would be relevant since the lowend gets cut out by the mix engineer in favor of the bass anyways. Alone in my bedroom I would prolly want me some toobs but as an actual musician Solid State has long reached a point where it can do it just as well, just look at all the modelers that shit hard on most amps. Bassists have long embraced solid state as the superior choice, guitar will follow suit in the following decade.

>>
>didnt get to jam bc drummer friend is tired
>peavey guy still hasn't responded
I hate Mondays
>>
>>128505420
that’s probably just signal noise due to inherent limitations of the tube design. it’s become endearing at this point but that’s been mostly figured out by new ir capturing methods
>>
guys I've been jamming with this dude (i'm a drummer, he's a guitarist) and things are getting weird. I'm trans and I think he's trying to get with me. last time we jammed he showed up with his hair slicked back, drenched in cologne. he had a a bottle of what he must have thought was nice wine but it was boones farm blue hawaiian from the gas station. he was wearing spandex bicycle shorts and i think he was 'stuffing' but instead of like one sausage, it was stuffed with what looked like a handful of beenie weenies
>>
>>128505420
On the whole, bassists arent as gullible as guitarists. Embracing solid states, DI, not falling for the pedal funko pop meme, not falling for the pickups meme, 90% of basses have the objectively correct tuners out the gate, etc
>>
>>128505537
bassists are also more motivated to develop other skills like theory, reading, and metronome practice. they usually end up being multi instrumentalists too. wish my guitar bros would get out of the dark
>>
I played bass in my school’s jazz band for 5 years and while it was fun it was nowhere near as fun as when I played guitar in the jazz band during the final year of school. The guitar player had graduated and nobody wanted to play guitar so I volunteered, I had been playing guitar longer than I had been playing bass and had already learned most of our songs over the years on guitar on my own time so it was an easy role to jump over too. Playing rhythm guitar parts in a jazz band is some of the most fun I’ve had playing in music, lead parts are fun but I was more than happy to let the one of the sax or trumpet guys take the leads. I enjoy playing bass but whenever I’m playing bass in a band all I can think about is how much I’d rather be playing guitar. There’s a time and a place for lead guitar though, whereas bass will always have a place and rhythm guitar will have a place 90% of the time. Shitty bassists are a diamond dozen I this doggy dog world but having a legitimate bass player who understands what he’s doing (aka not just a failed guitar player) is truly valuable and hard to find.

Electric guitar is the peoples instrument and it's a double edged sword. Bass being a less glorious instrument will naturally attract more musically minded people (as well as failed guitarists but yeah)
>>

just two problems with that: guitar has fallen out of popular music and bass is responsible for the two most important aspects of music: rhythm and harmony

compressor -> overdrive -> BIG MUFF -> small clone chorus -> Delay -> cloudburst reverb

I think I want to move the muff to after the reverb because I want the wall of fuzz effect but even with just the compressor and the big muff it's either not making any noise or just way too loud

I have too many spare guitar bits around so i’m putting together a partscaster. Fender american body, mexican neck maybe. Anybody have experience with wilkinson low gauss ceramic tele pickups? Looking for bright sound but full and jazzy.
Any good budget pickup reccs for a partscaster tele?
Pic for attention, from google. Same color body as i’m using though.

i think because using effects to make it heavy and distorted, the picking helps keep the tone. when i finger play with distortion i dont really know how much force to use so it doesnt clip
>>
>>128510616
That doesn't make any sense to me because distortion squishes everything to the same level you can't really make it peak no matter how hard you play, meanwhile put on the clean channel with the preamp turned up and it's peak city

>>128508411
100 bucks ish
>>
>>128510625
I do have all my effects running parallel instead of one into the other so I believe that has a pretty big effect on the tone. I have big hands and i work out a lot so I think my default finger pluck is really strong.

I use an air compressor with a wand that has a regulator on it to control the intensity. Works great for getting dust under the strings on the pickguard and on my many painted headstocks and around pickups/bridge/trems. I wouldn’t use canned duster as that has chemicals in it. The sell mechanical dusters on Amazon but they’re cheap and Chinese. The safest bet it to do it when changing strings

>>128511644

When the peavey gets here I'll be getting it adjusted and have BEAD on the strings. But would it be safe to tune up to C#? just buy a B-string? 5 string packs are not really much more than four string and drop the G-string. Tuning an E down to B is stupid and will sound like absolute dogshit, gauges exist for a reason.
