Vocaroo thread!

Sing a song, improvise, share WIP, covers, stuff you made.

I was expecting a big build-up to something here with the really slow opening on the one chord, but most of the parts with the vocals don’t really seem to go anywhere (it’s not the end of the world if they’re incomprehensible or shaky but that kind of vibe needs some payoff). The guitar once it starts to shift into the dissonant bits gets quite cool but then it just… ends. Would be cool to hear what you could do with some more layering and reverb and shit.
>>
>>128518272
It needs to go somewhere.

Glistens Greenly has some very cool rapid vocal parts at 2:40. Thanks for sharing. I'll listen to the other tracks in the car later.

solid song; most of the sound is really good - although I don’t know enough about production or listen to enough pop-punk/emo-ish stuff to comment properly, but something about the way the vocals sit in the mix doesn’t feel quite right to me

every time I pick up the guitar this is all that happens, I just doodle around for a while and that's it. it's been like this since I was a kid. it's kinda disheartening honestly, I don't know how to get better, I think I need a mentor or something. never taken lessons, just always fucking around on the guitar. not autistic enough to be a self taught virtuoso I guess.
>>
>>128519259
learn more pieces, focusing on the kinds of music you want to hear and make, and try and understand not just how to play it but why you like and how it works. commit to writing a piece with a beginning middle and end. write solos over chord progressions. work in multiple notes instead of single note lines so you can write something that feels more cohesive rather than noodle. try writing a song that uses your riffs or other ideas as a base. whatever.

I basically learned guitar purely from writing songs. A new trick, a new technique, a new kind of chord progression or melody, etc, all got absorbed into something bigger, and it would stick. the bigger thing is what gives the small things meaning and context.

you can clearly play guitar but you can’t write cohesive music if you don’t challenge yourself to actually do that in new ways. what you’re describing is like looking at a bunch of wonderful paints and brushes and wondering why they haven’t turned into a painting yet.

here's a really old demo track i found on my old laptop's harddrive the other night. data says i started it in early 2010. never finished it. was going for an Oceano + Born Of Osiris sort of metalcore feel. obviously it sucks ass. but it was really fun to hear where i was back then

>>
Going to re-record some of this stuff but I want to know what some of you anons think
https://voca.ro/1ePY3veHOCrs
>>
>>128519962
i actually really like the guitar tone as it is. the drums are way too clipped-out. if you could keep the guitar tone, and re-do the drums with a more controlled approach, i think it'd be really cool.

and i'm not saying the noisy clipping doesn't add to the drums; you've just gotta do it in a smarter way. slam the drums with an analog compressor (or equivalent plugin). the distortion would sound cool in a controlled manner. but not as it is. much too harsh. you want loud and punchy, but WITHOUT the harsh frequencies and blasted clipping.

>>
I saw korn live once. it was cool but everyone in the audience were a bunch of basket cases. either the guitarist or bassist, one of them, threw their pick at me. wish I woulda kept it. instead like a dumbass I used it to, well, play the guitar. it wasn't a special pick or anything, so I figured
>fuck it
but maybe someone coulda given me 10 whole dollars for it or something.

your voice is really great. you've got a kinda singer/songwriter type voice. halfway between fallout boy and googoo dolls. change your strings and multitrack those songs. you've got a solid demo. a voice like that only needs light compression and reverb.

Hey everyone, I’ve been grinding on this track for a while and finally feel ready to share it. I poured a lot into the production and arrangement, so I’d really appreciate some honest, detailed feedback good or bad. I just want to know what’s working and what I should improve. Thanks for giving it a listen

>>
>>128529273
>I didn't think the old-string-sound was that noticeable
the absolute best thing you can do for your guitar/bass recordings is new strings. it ABSOLUTELY makes a difference. go on amazon and buy a 3 pack of orphee acoustic strings. same exact strings as fender/gibson/elixer but wayyy cheaper.

sure, it's cool to jam and write songs on dead strings, but when it comes time to record for real, you want brand new strings.

record it into a cheap usb interface (metronome in the headphones). then sing over the track separately. you can always "glue" a track together, but you really can't fully UN-glue it.

>>
>>128534966
No, but I don’t play lead/rock guitar in general so learning fragments would really occur to me.

For you, it comes from the fact that you’re not really learning them with any motivation to play them fully apart from the flashier/catchier riffs, like playing with a band or making a full cover version or whatever. You really should sit down and learn them though - you only grow as a musician by putting what you learn in context.

Was nervous and shaky as hell on both voice and guitar, but managed to go a bit manic in the bridge was appropriate. Some people afterwards said it sounded “experimental” and “intricate” which was bizarre to me because I played it specifically because it was my simplest and least out-there song.

in comparison to megan thee stallion or whatever the hell it is that normalfags are listening to these days. you got this sort of james blunt dashboard confessional mars volta type sound imo and that's the definition of "alternative" innit?
>>
>>128538851
I mean I’d fucking loath to be thought of as a James Blunt type but you’re not wrong with a softboi song like this one tbf.

Idk like I’ve so much material that’s genuinely weird and aggressive (at least for a guy with an acoustic guitar wearing a neckerchief) so when people compliment my songs that to me aren’t that musically interesting, as though they were somehow avant-garde, I just question their judgement a little. Even one guy I know who’s a very good jazz pianist was like “oh I loved the time signature changes” and I was like “there were time signature changes?” until i realised he meant between 3/4 and 6/8, because in my head that’s too basic to count.
