I don't know anything about making music, but I thought about buying a 25-Key controller like pic related to play around with. Will I be able to do something fun with it? or just buy something like a Yamaha keyboard to fool around with?
>>
yeah, definitely
you could always learn some basic music production, just choose a DAW (fl studio or reaper if you want a free alternative) configure the controller so there's no latency, get some vsts, and just experiment

just research how your favorite music is usually made and just experiment
>>
get more keys. That's enough for wiggers making beats, but if you actually want to create good music you need more keys

>25-key
buy an 88 and that you can plug your headphones in or onto your computer and just mess around. you are never gonna learn with a 25 key and you gonna stay in novice level forever. 88 keys, usb port to PC, etc aint that expensive.

but as I mentioned I don't know much if anything about making music, i'm just going to be fooling around. If I get good I can invest in something bigger. I was actually planning just buying a yamaha home keyboard but I talked to someone and he basically convinced me to get this instead since I'd be able to do more of what I'd want to do instead of keyboard that might be full size but I can't do much with since it's limited and i wouldn't know how to use all the keys regardless.
>>
Yeah just buy a regular 88 key electric piano and lean the instrument at a basic level. You can still use it with a computer as a controller but you can actually play on it too.
>>128570962
Definitely go for something like a yamaha keyboard instead of a tiny one like im the OP. It doesn't matter if you don't know how to use it yet. If you don't end up using it you can always sell it easily.
>>
start playing zelda ocarina of time music, its easy i highly recommend it. then move into more advanced music theory once your fingers become more flowy
>>
well thanks anons, i will reconsider and try to find a cheap 88 home keyboard instead to fool around with

Yes, we need good keyboard players not bullshit bedroom zoomer trap beat makers. Music is stagnating learn music theory. Put in the effort pls. Its super entretaining anyway.
>>
>>128570824
I make the majority of my music with my mouse. That only works if you know where to click of course. Frankly I think an absolute beginner doesn't need a full 88 unless they are planning on actually learning to play the damn thing.

Yes you can, while more keys is probably better I got this 25 key Nektar controller for free and it's working awesome in Reaper with also free VSTs.
>>
>>128570824
You can play some chords on ffxiv with that using bardplayer. It's not the width of a couch and stores easily. It's very fun. I wish I bought it first
>>
>>128571625
Why wouldnt you want to learn to play an instrument. How can you call yourself a musician if you can't play the damn thing.
>>
>>128572505
I write music for lots of instruments I can't play. I imagine that would also be true for most people who would consider buying a fucking akai mpk.
>>
>>128572505
Anon has a point. I made a few covers one time but they all took longer with a full sized midi controller (88). Once I got used to most sounds I stopped using it to put covers together. Although yes you need full sized for most classical songs. Maybe not as many video game songs but using a daw is a different work flow than using staff paper
>>
>>128572764
I'm not a real pianist but I can play chords with left hand while playing tune with right hand. You can't even do that on these things.
>>

>I wouldn't know how to use all the keys
>A larger keyboard is more limited
Your advisor is a retard. Here's the red pill anon: it's just the same 12 keys over and over again. 48 keys is just 24, but higher and lower. Want to play a higher note and a lower one at the same time? Can't do it with 24 keys.
You might be thinking
>Muh drum pads!
Just use the keys to play the drums.
>Muh knobs
Just buy a bigger midi controller that also has knobs??
You can buy a used 48+ key midi controller on reverb for like $200
>>
>>128572764
just get the full size, you can put letters on the damn keys if you struggle remembering

Don’t listen to the people telling you to get a larger keyboard, they don’t remember what starting out felt like.

I have MPK mini and a full size keyboard that was more expensive. It just takes up a lot of space and I’ve hardly used it, where as I can set up the APK mini and play around with it on my desk, lap, etc. conveniently.

Anon stop being gay, we aint giving you an option here get the 88 keys, we LACK good keyboard music. If more people get into this instrument that is good for music. I'm bored and I wanna hear good tunes. I'm not saying its your destiny to be a pianist but if you fail at least you tried and you know vastly more than the average normie.

Everyone in this board needs to learn that instrument, this is not an underestatement. Unless somebody ITT is already part of a band and the composer is already carrying him and all he does is play guitar or bass or sing. Hell if you are a solo artist (singer) you must git gud at keys this is non negotiable, otherwise your career likely will nose dive after 30. We are in an era where better instrumentalists are needed or just plain more instrumental imput period. I don't care if AI this or AI that. It's not the same. The player knows how to arrange things better even with AI and it accelerates the music making process. Learning theory is good period. Sorry it can be boring if you aint in the mood for it, but I find it fun, its like a video game to me on the days im motivated to learn.

>>128573170
Its not about remembering, if anon is going to make italian house or some shit 88 keys is just going to take up desk space.
>>
Ignore this >>128573332 anon. This anon is just sabotaging any possible potential you might develop.
Just label your keys with the stickers i posted, get the complete keyboard. The keys repeat.
>>
>>128573342
We need less house music and less trap hipslop (not music). We need more genuine music in this world. I don't care what you think.

Even Deadmau5 (Joel) plays a full keyboard now for a reason.
>>
>Will I be able to do something fun with it?
Yeah, learn basic stuff and try to improvise
>>
>>128570824
>I don't know anything about making music,

me neither
>>
>>128572450
I have this.
>>
>>128570824
25 keys isn't enough for two hands, its fine for recording but if you actually want to learn how to play and write music then get something bigger.
>>
>>128575914
zoomers are writing number ones on phones and AI so 25 keys is pretty damn musical when you think about it
>>
>>128570824
I just noticed this MPK has no pitch bend/modulation wheels like this does: >>128572450
I think that is something you would want at any size.
>>
what's the best price quality 25 key control out there?
>>
I became infatuated with this keyboard because of the size, built-in sounds and external batteries. It's cheap, it's cute and a step above the basic Casio we had as kids, so as a total newbie it's normal to gravitate to it and you correctly guess you'll be less intimidated with it than with a full keyboard. That said, as soon as I began studying piano (group class, beginners, nothing fancy) and facing even the most basic of sheet music, I saw it doesn't cut it for more than fooling around with it.
Points of importance:
>mini keys
Learning with this is counterproductive and you notice the difference when you feel yourself lost within the ocean of keys in an actual piano. Having full-sized keys is important as an adult and many cheap boards offer them.
>two octaves
Combine with above and there's simply not enough space for playing sheet music. You'll think that's an intermediate player problem, but you'll feel cramped even with like Oh Christmas Tree and shit.

I bought a cheap MIDI and downloaded Bandcamp and it's the actual way to feel advancements between classes. I'm not against the 25-key and I use it every week, but just not for serious practice.
>>
I just got an Arturia MiniLab 3. It's a great keyboard, and at a price point of €99, quite affordable.
>>
49 full sized keys is good enough if you want to save money and you're not trying to learn music written for piano.
Small enough to keep close to your computer comfortably, but big enough to actually cover the basics.
