Rick misses the loss of belonging, representation, and opportunity he felt in society, but is probably too culturally lobotomized to express it directly, so he misassociates the pop culture tokens he likes from that time with those feelings.

Also that band is way over in Greece, and NWoTHM is a revival genre, which exists to worship a time or place, rather than learn from and build upon.
