Guitar can be a very expressive instrument and people struggle to verbalize the sensations it produces.
>>
>>128698711
>all of this bullshit
>it all gets lost in the mix anyway

I struggle to overcome the urge to just make random noise every time I pick up the guitar. I just get distracted and don't actually practice anything to get better
>>

Technically all pickups do this.

it's 90% showmanship anyway
get yourself a cool persona ("alter ego" as they say), then learn some basic chords and how to keep a beat
after that you can get the boys together, ""write"" some ""songs"", and book some shows at the pub; you'll be bumping elbows with giants in no time!
>>
>>128699127
guitar is more than just the sound it makes, playability and reliability drastically go up as do special features and finishes
>>
>>128699038
That's okay and after a certain point you can get better at guitar by
thinking about what you want to do. Have you tried preparing your guitar with objects? That could get it out of your system.
>>128698711
Just get an acoustic and affix pickups (sound hole, saddle, etc.), transducers and mics (lapel, handheld, karaoke things with built in echo) all over it and in it. That's what I do, channel it though a mini mix and blend the results with whatever is captured on the tape recorder and/or boombox or multitrack. I use cassette tape machines as delay devices and amps, it's amazing what sounds you can get while bypassing resellers and all this direct mount nonsense. You can build or a salvage all these things for basically nothing.
>>128698753
Have you tried flatwound strings?
>>
>>128699127
I would never buy a new instrument.
At this point I would never buy an instrument. Dealers and resellers are parasitic subhumans. Might as well dumpster dive or ask around and barter.

Jazz guitarists and Metal guitarists.
Biggest frauds in music.
Jazz players roll back tone to hide their sloppy Jazz chord buzzing.
Metal players use ultra saturated gain amps to hide their sloppy dynamics.
Prove me wrong Jazz and Metal players, post Vocas on a clean amp with the treble turned up.

>>128702673

>>
>>128702643
no you are right. cheap instruments use kiln dried wood because it’s faster and cheaper. if it’s not properly done (which it isn’t because time is money) it doesn’t dry all the way through and can sometimes even put like a case-hardened surface on it. those woods are incredibly prone to warping, cupping, and rotting. hobbyist woodworkers have to deal with that shit all the time
>>
>>128702685
interesting. I don’t seem to have problems with other boards but /mu/ will have periods where it hangs on refresh
>>
>>128701792
sexy
>>
>>128702686
im guessing if it isnt dried out properly its more likely to change around with temp changes too
>>
>>128702697
possible. I would wager the has more to do with it being a non-optimal cut. quartersawn is the best you can get for necks because the grain is strong in the direction of the string pressure and if it were to warp or cup it would do so in a way that was proportionally uniform. quartersawing lumber large enough to get a neck blank out of is not cheap
>>
>>128702708
also having reinforcement rods that run alongside the truss rod is a premium feature. that makes a huge difference. I think all instruments should have stainless frets and graphite reinforcement rods.
>>
>>128702132
its yanny
>>
https://voca.ro/1cdG9yYoLyqv
>>
>>128702708
see, i didnt even consider that with the necks, i guess they have started to cheap out on that too
i do enjoy buying and selling cheap guitars just to try shit out and usually they need to be retuned every day before using them, sometimes even multiple times while playing (not doing extreme bends or anything).
if you get a fixed bridge its not too bad but jesus fuck man, anything cheap(under 1000 bucks) with a tremolo is usually hell unless you get really lucky, the player II i sold off was all over the place for example.

>>128702713
this, stainless steel frets being a "premium" feature is just greed. there is a couple of brands which do give you those + i think reinforcement rods for not too much more.
but i reckon it all goes back to the "we dont want to spend 10 more minutes making a guitar and making the stainless steel frets perfect before we ship them to save 10 dollars"
>>
https://voca.ro/1dRd4rBHwNb4
>>
>>128702743
yeah it’s unfortunate you have to pay more money for features that don’t really make the guitar better to get the stuff you want on a factory build. you don’t need everything though, I bought an AVII precision bass recently which has no reinforcement rods and the neck is not quartersawn, but I have taken it in and out of the 20 degree weather at least 3 days out of the week the past two weeks and it’s only been tuned once. all the strings are within a cent of where I left them

Let me tell you ‘bout this cat they call Mountain.
Big boy.
Not tall, not wide
just present,
like the air gets thicker when he walks through it.
Hair like a busted thundercloud,
eyes soft as day-old bread,
spirit stitched together with Whopper wrappers
and the faint hum of a ukulele that ain’t been in tune
since Clinton era foreign policy.
Mountain…
he’s got a way of drifting.
Like he ain’t walking on the floor,
just sliding through it,
one heartbeat behind the rest of reality.
And he comes into the rec room
or maybe it was Guitar Center,
or maybe it was the ghost of a Guitar Center
‘cause Mountain bends time with his own confusion
and he says:
“Friends… I believe destiny is a coupon
valid only at participating Burger King locations.”
And we all just stare.
‘Cause that’s Mountain:
droppin’ fortune-cookie truths,
but every fortune’s got grease soaked through it
and a little bit of IBS catastrophe
lurkin’ like a jump-scare.
And he picks up that Epiphone SG
calls it a Gibson like a man calling a paper crown a kingdom
and he strums it.
One chord.
Dissonant.
Wounded.
Reverb trailing behind him
like a prisoner dragging his own chains.
Then everything goes quiet.
Danger quiet.
Hope quiet.
>>
And Mountain
this big, gentle, confused storm of a man
he whispers:
“Oh fiddlefaddle…
it’s happening again.”
And folks start backing up
‘cause they know what that means.
The Mountain Mist.
The Brown Snowfall.
The Wrath of King IBS.
But me…
I don’t move.
I just stand there,
watching.
Observing the tragedy,
the comedy,
the greasy opera of a man
who never once understood what the word moderation meant.
And while the workers scramble for mops
and the guitars cry out in polyurethane agony,
Mountain just breathes deep.
Calm.
Serene.
Like shame ain’t heavy enough
to rest on shoulders that already carry
the burden of a thousand Whoppers
and one out-of-tune ukulele.
And I think:
Maybe Mountain ain’t a joke.
Maybe he’s a poem
written in the handwriting of God
after God had a few too many red cigarettes.
A messy poem.
A loud poem.
A poem nobody asked for,
but everybody remembers.
That’s Mountain.
Bless his heart.
Curse his bowels.
And may his reverb echo
long after the stink fades.

I long for the day when Gibson gets told to fuck off and every company is allowed to make 1 to 1 clones of LP/Flying V body shapes. Why is Japan the only country with enough of a brain to do that while the rest get bent for a company that produces overpriced instruments with lackluster quality.
>>
>>128705914
I had something like that once, but it made realize that I hate basswood. It's soft and the screw holes get stripped easily if you muck around too much. And the slightest dent has a higher chance of going to the wood, not just the paint.

Nylon acoustic improv. 12/5/2025: A grey dreary glow filters through the haze of the clouds... And the leaves are all somewhere else. And the snow glistens and melts very slowly on the pine needles. The crows and sparows black dots on the monochrome sky. Drifting away until they mix with the floating imperfections in your vision... Until you can't tell them apart.

Tom G Warrior's limited Ibanez Giger guitars were deliberately build in a lower grade factory with lower grade parts because he always played cheap guitars and felt expensive guitars were decadent nonsense.
Ironically the vintage Ibanez guitars he loves, while "cheap" guitars at the time of release, would be considered high end guitars today if you look at the factories and parts.

the three notes on one string are the first three notes in a dorian mode, or a minor scale, and the note on the lower string (visually above, tonally below) is tonally the fifth degree of the scale.
You are playing in a natural minor key, and playing in key sounds good.
>>
>>128708053
depends on where you start the root note but even in the worst case scenario where the bottom notes start on the B string and the 2nd note is the root, you have a minor 2nd but still have a flat 7 and perfect 4th. anyway I explained why it works here
