I mean he's old as fuck and I hardly see him anymore but when I do we have a good chat
>>

No way, does he still in DC? I used to be a massive Svenonius fanboy, I even still have a copy of his book The Psychic Soviet.

hi LA oomf, Ian is the fucking coolest dude on the whole LA scene. I want to be him when i grow up
>>
>>128699131
I had a crush on a chick who later went out with Cedric Bixler-Zavala
>>
>>128699131
Are you sure you're not a hanger-on? Ian Svenonius probably has a lot of those.
>>
I befriended a few local bands. Its pretty cool.

I used to live in Los Angeles and saw Ian a couple times, once in Target shopping for a frying pan, which was completely surreal seeing him dressed in his 1960s mod gear in a tan trench coat and preposterous rocker hair just walking around the store like he's a nobody. The second time was at a Karate concert with Velvet Teen opening (a band from my home town in the Bay Area), I turned around at one point and he was right behind me munching on a burrito and I could see his fucked up teeth really close in my face.

In another life where I'm 30 years older than I currently am I'm sure I would have been a Make-up and Chain and the Gang fanboy.

Of course with these funny chance run by's I wasn't even a real fan of his yet, I only knew him lightly as a musician and more for his Soft Focus interview series, which I still swear by as being one of the best interview series ever, for quality of conversation and guest choices. Similarly I once kept running into Father John Misty in Hollywood as he walked around completely alone, again not yet had I become a big fan so I just ignored him. At least when I saw Mark Kozelek for the second time (first time was at the San Francisco airport) at an Italian restaurant I got the guts to say hi to him and have a small chat.

I'm planning on getting all his books, I like how his mind works.

I saw Make-Up in 2012 during their reunion tour in Chicago and he came out in a salmon suit and they rocked it man, one of the coolest people I've ever seen. I got a little emotional when they did Born on the Floor because all those late 90s memories came flooding back.

He's an awesome artist, like I said if I was older than 28 I'd be following him all around the country I'm sure and buying all his records. At least I'm the perfect age to have seen Mount Eerie 4 times for all his latest tours, and see Sun Kil Moon before muh cancellation.

Funnily I've also seen a lot of old cats like Rick Wakeman solo who I met after the show walking him to his car because I was doing event security...seen Todd Rundgren and Utopia, King Crimson, The Who, Rush, Blue Oyster Cult, bunch of old bags but still fun.

Lol she moved to a different city and became busy with her career. No hard feelings.

double standard. if a girl goes out and fucks a different guy every night, they call her a slut. if a guy goes out and does the same thing, they call him a homosexual

>>
>>128699131
whats he like?
he always seemed absolutely insufferable to me as a person yet I deeply love every single band he's ever done
>>
>>128700712
she became world famous at 18 so when did you date her?
>>
>>128707693
I never dated her. She was just a part of a group of misfits I hung out with for a couple years.

Anyway, this would have been around 96/97. It was post-Mickey Mouse Club, and right before she recorded Genie in a Bottle. The last time I saw her, she played us a demo tape of the song she did for the Mulan soundtrack.

I'm not OP but I've heard that within 30 seconds of speaking to Svenonius, you're like "oh this guy's a genius" and he has a tendency to leave people mouth agape
>>
