favourite album hated by people who've never listened to it?
Marilyn Manson is known far more for being an edgy celebrity than a truly great rock and roll band. Most people dont even give the music a chance
>>128699457Look at the Fool is actually pretty good.
>>128699457It's mind boggling how bad Squeeze is given how good Doug's Velvet Underground songs are. I would even say his songs could be better than Lou's on self titled and Loaded even, and then he's given complete reign with the Velvet Underground title and he and his brother proceeded to make one of the worst 70s albums of any major band or artist. Really odd.
>>128699457I don't even consider Squeeze a Velvet Underground album. But, to be fair, I do think that every album after John Cale left is hot garbage
>>128699962Even if the songs were better, it just sounds like shit anyway. I don't know what happened when they were recording those songs but somebody fucked up.
>>128700948Yeah it's unbearably thin sounding, horrible production, zero low end. I think this section from Wikipedia sums things upYule also recalled that the album "was done with just me. All the basic tracks were laid down with drums and me. Ian Paice of Deep Purple played the drums. So he and I would lay down a track. How much interplay can you have when all it is one guitar or a piano? You can hear that, it's kind of dead. I think you get more when you have 3 or 4 people playing together, they feed off each other, they work together and something comes out of it, it's bigger."[4] Yule's and Paice's performances were augmented with occasional saxophone and backing vocals. The eleven songs that make up Squeeze were written by Yule. He later recalled, "I remember sitting on a plane writing extensive notes on the mixing of the album. I sent it to Steve and none of my suggestions were taken, I'm sure he didn't even read it. He mixed it for the best possible commercial success. (...) It's really embarrassing. I gave what I had at the time. There are parts of it I hate and parts I don't. But if I had to do it over again, it would be a completely different album, with different people and have nothing to do with Sesnick."[3]
>>128699478The lineup of Manson, John 5, Twiggy Ramirez, Ginger Fish, & Madonna Wayne Gacy contained a lot of talent and the live performances from that era are great.
>>128702026John 5 is an incredible guitarist, all Telecaster too
>>128699483all Buckley's albums vary from ok to great, not a single objectively bad one
>>128701240Yeah, Steve Sesnick was a fucking rat. Everything that ever went wrong with that band can be linked to him in some way. He puffed up Lou's already huge ego (which he tried to do to Doug later too), helped drive John Cale out of the group, hoarded any and all money they might have made from touring, etc.
>>128699962>he and his brother proceeded to make one of the worst 70s albums of any major band or artist. Really odd.maybe cause he was too conscious about vu not being vu anymore witohut reed?
>>128699962Lou wrote all the songs on s/t and Loaded, Doug just sings some of them
>>128699457Good bad or indifferent, just release the album as by 'doug yule and backing band' or something. He was just riding on the coattails of the name Lou and John Cale had built. The first two records were the best.
