why are Black folks so much better at making music?
>>
Are they?
>>

They got mogged in all their genres except Rap because Rap is not even music.
>>
>>128705543
I'd ask which Jazz artists you think are at the summit, but I don't even wanna know. Keep that shit to yourself forever.

Stop being racist yourself. That's not the way to fight chuds.
>>

>>
>>128705705
or melody
>>
>>128705726
The first Jazz that everyone listens to, Miles Davis’ “Kind of Blue” is extremely melodic. I assume you haven’t actually listened to any jazz, and are just larping to bait people
>>
>>128705726
It definitely does sometimes. Regardless, music ≠ melody. Furthermore, a lack of melody doesn't preclude something from being art.

I'm racist as fuck, and even I think you're retarded. Stop posting,
>>
>>128705392
Is this 1961?
>>
>>128705602
a valid point 50 years ago but who are the big black jazz artists in the modern day?
>>
>>128705861
No, it's the Clown Year of Our Lord Skibidi Geese 6 7 frfr

Jazz has been dead for quite some time.

Ahmed is pretty good, but they're definitely not for everyone.

They aren't.
It's the bar of reasonable expectations that keeps dropping.

that's gotta sting.

i literally don't do these pointless bait back and forth's .....
but, reminder, all of the rules of harmony and melody all people in western countries (and most of the rest of world) use (no matter their color) was deduced by people we refer to as white.
>>
>>128709678
white people treat melody and harmony like a math problem
black people just feel it intuitiviely
>>
>>128705392
She performed at the world cup draw literally just a few hours ago. her, Wyclef and her sons. it kinda sucked lol
>>
>>128705392
I would agree but most of the music I listen to is made by white people and asians, got nothing against black people, I just don't like much of their music
>>
>>128709689
Both cringey and somewhat accurate at the same time. A rare occurrence.
>>
>>128709689
there might be some truth to that.
but returning to my best r and b band ever statement:
the fact that keith richards obsessively studied old blues records to learn every nuance (and what worked best and what didn't) was the special sauce that allowed him to eventually make r and b derived music far superior to the more rudimentary stuff that inspired him. most of the guys he studied just didn't have that analytical framework that allows taking stuff to the next level in whatever field.
i mean i like james brown, but all in all, the rolling stones were just more varied and more harmonically interesting. (jb is very monotonous and repetitive)
i'm happy to be disabused of that rating if you can (we're all to a large degree limited to what we've been most exposed to and i've definitely listened to way more rolling stones), but i doubt it can be done.
>>
>>128705392
Hardship makes great art and the White man his never experienced true hardship in his life.
>>
>>128709689
>>128709879
ok. tried this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOD-M7WZkZQ out. it's literally the same groove throughout (besides a slight variation in his infamous 'bridge). why?
probably because jb and the band didn't know how to harmonically resolve it to create a more interesting effect.
rolling stones use a lot of repetition too, but they also knew cool ways to resolve chord progression. the secret sauce.
>>
>>128705392
i dont believe in this racial competition bullshit

but i would say the black music tradition is more rhythmic generally, white people seem more rigid
>>
>>128710105
i literally lasted a minute on this one --- from the most sampled artist in hip hop.
just too repetitive for my tastes.

>>
>>128710105
this song is supposed to be background music to social experience

"resolutions" and the shit you're talking about is treating a song as an artpiece

I mean a thread on rating who makes the best 3 or 4 minute sound collages is by definition asking people to look at the stuff as 'art pieces'.
>>
>>128709678
Barbershop music in the modern sense is not singable using standard Western harmony. The exact origins are obscure but the evidence suggests it was probably invented by black people.
>>
>>128709879
I've always felt they were a bit too studious, but no one understood the tension between black and white cultures that lies underneath rock music like they did. Or at least no other rock nerds were able to use that knowledge and make consistently good music.
>>
>>128705782
>Regardless, music ≠ melody
completely wrong, retard.
>>
>>128705392
>capital B
>>
>>128710755
yes and that's the fundamental difference between white and black music. the latter is like aw that's just noise to bump at a house party and don't think too hard into it.
>>
>>128709879
>i'm happy to be disabused of that rating if you can (we're all to a large degree limited to what we've been most exposed to

might be shocked to learn that Taylor Swift's musical knowledge is mostly limited to the shitty 90s-00s radio pop of her childhood
>>
She's holding all of those prizes, but what's the point if I don't even know who she is? Really activates the almonds.

is this true? I get the feeling blacks sit around listening to music more than any group (i.e., not just as party noise).

it's because black folks have SOUL
>>
>>128721934
I know that they pay attention to the music being played way less

well hold on that depends, it its rap (not music) then yeah probably correct, but if its blues or soul or jazz or funk, good chance they are

jazz, good; but today they do not play jazz
>>
>saying blacks are lazy
all the old cats from the early 20th century up until rap worked harder than anybody at their music. if anything blacks probably took music more seriously than white folks since it was one of the few professions they were allowed to do.
>>
>>128728897
yeah James Brown had insane discipline. simpleton white boys like us should look up to him not some corny rockstars
>>
>>128705392
I know right, huh
>>

he was a literal crack head who had his band play the same groove while he yelped some indecipherable gibberish all thru the 70's.
